excellent study guide, August 26, 2009

I bought this for my daughter to study for her AP Euro exam. She said that it was really helpful and scored a 5 on her exam. Well worth it!

Rockin' Study Guide, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Cracking the AP European History Exam, 2009 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
You can't get much better than this book for a very comprehensive review of the entire AP European History curriculum. The content review is unmatched by any other prep book in the genre - just run through it a week or so before the exam and, assuming you've had adequate preparation from your course, you should be on track to make it through the heavy multiple choice section.
Essay preparation tips could be slightly better - I learned to do the essays slightly differently, so I ignored the suggestions in the book. With nothing to go on, these tips are certainly better than going in blind, however, I suggest you review some actual test questions.
The practice tests included in the book are, in my opinion, ever so slightly less challenging than the actual College Board exams (past released exams and the actual exam that I took). I would take those with a grain of salt - the book's major strong point is its most excellent review of content.
Out of all the books available for this purpose, you can't go wrong with the Princeton Review title (not so in all subjects!).

Wish I'd bought it for myself, May 22, 2009
This review is from: Cracking the AP European History Exam, 2009 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I just finished my AP Euro class. I actually bought the McGraw Hill 5 steps to a 5 study book. I liked it a lot because of the way that the reviews were organized. One HUGE drawback to this book was its multiple choice tests. They were nothing like the practice tests that my teacher gave my class. After talking to a couple of friends, it was decided that this book had the best practice multiple choice tests. They had the same material as the practice tests that my teacher was giving, and also, they were a lot like the actual AP test. The explainations were very easy to understand, while giving enough background information to help answer any question of a similar topic. When I took my first multiple choice test before using this book I got a 40%. After completing two of the multiple choice tests in this book I improved my score to 80%. The questions on the AP Test were just like what I had seen time and time again. We'll see in July how prepared I actually was!
I cannot judge any other part of the book, though, because I did not actually buy it.
