4.0 out of 5 stars A great book if you're in a rush
This is the only book I used to study. I procrastinated and then crammed with this book. It has a chapter for every section of psychology, including those subjects I didn't take in college like comparative psychology, history, and ethology and those subjects I barely remember like history and physiological. This book will highlight ALL the main points of each subject...

3.0 out of 5 stars a decent book..., November 6, 2000
This review is from: Cracking the GRE Psychology, 5th Edition (Paperback)
This study guide was okay...it does cover each area that is tested on the GRE Psychology; however, the text at times can be rather vague and difficult to read (I found my intro psych book to be a lot more engaging). There are not many good "tips to improve your score" like you may see in other GRE books, which is discouraging for people who end up cramming the week before (pretty much everybody). There is a very good section at the end about psychology graduate programs, and the practice exam is very similar to the actual exam. (I think some questions were the same!)The best advice is, of course, start in advance and study a lot, ESPECIALLY know the names AND research of all important psychologists!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is all you need!, July 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Cracking the GRE Psychology, 5th Edition (Paperback)
I ended up cramming for the GRE Psych test for 2 weeks (instead of the recommended 6 weeks). I only bought Princeton Review's study guide and I pretty much just made sure I knew the info reviewed in it. They divide the info into sections (Memory, Evolutionary, Social, etc.) and gave anywhere from 2-10 pages of information you should know for the test about that particular section. I didn't even look at my intro psych text, or any of my second/third year course textbooks. Well, the study guide must have been worth it, because I got a 700 on the GRE Psych, and other than a few questions on the test, the book prepared you for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars 670 after only two days of review!!!, June 13, 2002

I took the Psychology GREs after being out of school for 2 years. I planned and planned for it, and bought about 4 review books. Time went by, work stayed busy, and I never found time to study. Finally, 2 days before the test, I took a couple of vacation days from work and just crammed.

I started my review with the Barron's; that book was way too long, given my time frame. I started using the Princeton Review book after about half a day, and it was much better.

Come test day, I would estimate that this book provided me with at least 90% of the information I needed. Therefore, you might miss a couple of the really detailed questions if you only study from this book, but you will be able to get a more than respectable score - I got a 670 after two days of studying, and I think I could have done even better with a third day available to review this book.

By all means, if you have the time, use additional sources to get as much material down as possible, but if your time is limited and you only have time for one book, go with this one!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, April 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cracking the GRE Psychology, 5th Edition (Paperback)
This book did a great job of summarizing the material for the GRE. Study tips were also available at the end of each chapter. Only one practice test was availble though. I had bought other review books, yet this was the best. The intro psych book may be helpful, but is full of way to much information. I recently took the test and am unsure of my score, yet this book covered most the information on the test.

4.0 out of 5 stars very helpful!!!, December 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Cracking the GRE Psychology, 5th Edition (Paperback)
This book has saved my life! I studied from another book at first, and two weeks before the exam a friend recommended this book which was much shorter and clearer. I am not a psych major and took only 9 classes of psychology, and I've scored 680 thanks to this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Concise and Useful, December 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cracking the GRE Psychology, 5th Edition (Paperback)
I found this book to be very useful. It had very targeted information and obviously was written with the actual test in mind (e.g. comments like "3 recent tests had questions on this.."). Perhaps a little brief, but overall a good book. I used it in conjunction with the Arco book and scored a 760.
