5.0 out of 5 stars Took the test two days ago and here's my review!!
This book contains a brief yet informative summary of the AP US history test. 3.0 out of 5 stars A mediocre book.
I used this book in studying for the AP US History exam. It really did not cover everything I needed to know for the exam, so I probably got a 3 or 4 on it. Overall, I guess I would say that the review in the book was too basic. The multiple choice practice exams were too easy. Also, my teacher told us that the College Board was creating more and more DBQs that were...

5.0 out of 5 stars Took the test two days ago and here's my review!!, May 7, 2006
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This book contains a brief yet informative summary of the AP US history test. If you are just beginning to take the class, get this book and read through it once, then you may find the historic trends easier to understand once you get started on that 1000+ page textbook. It does a superb job of teaching the essay portion of the test, but the MC section seems to be designed to benefit only those willing to get a "3" or "4" (sorry no offense). The practice tests are complex, professionally-written, and somewhat similar to the actual test.
The essay questions are excellent and should be practiced rigorously in this book. Overall, a great book with a decent review and realistic practice tests.

EDIT: I received my score, it is a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great review tool!, May 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I used this book as I was preparing for the AP US History exam and it's definitely the best review book out there. I read through my friends' Kaplans and Petersons and they just don't compare. The review is thorough, but doesn't bog you down with too much information, and the practice questions are about as close as you can get to the real exam. Next year, I plan on taking three more AP exams, and I wouldn't trust any other book other than the Princeton Review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy for the Practice Tests, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
As a student in an AP US history class, this book does an adequate job of covering important facts and the wide variety of details needed to know on the AP exam. Can be hard to wade through, but so is the class ;D

WARNING:
this book is only for students who already have a basic knowledge of american history and, by itself, the book is not enough to get a good score on the exam!

SUGGESTION:
Buy used or photocopy the practice tests out of your friends book

3.0 out of 5 stars A mediocre book., June 18, 2006
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I used this book in studying for the AP US History exam. It really did not cover everything I needed to know for the exam, so I probably got a 3 or 4 on it. Overall, I guess I would say that the review in the book was too basic. The multiple choice practice exams were too easy. Also, my teacher told us that the College Board was creating more and more DBQs that were based on culture (and the Exam's DBQ this year was about women's culture from the post-American Revolution to the beginning of the Civil War), but this book didn't really reflect that change with its practice and test DBQs.

I guess this book's alright if you'll accept a 3 or 4 on the exam, which was alright for me.

This book was nice, but didn't give me the details I wanted. This would make for a good review if you're reading along side another history textbook, but this book alone will not suffice only on the AP exams. I also think the quizzes weren't very realistic, they were often too easy, and nothing like the questions on the actual AP exam

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good REVIEW book, March 8, 2008
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This was an excellent book to review from. I had a superb AP History techer, but I was really anxious about the test so I bought this book. I literally crammed from the information section 2 days before the test, to refresh the info and order in my mind, and I got a 5 on the exam!! I don't think I would reccomend it for those hoping to just read the book and ace the test if you haven't already taken a course, but I think this book plus even a regular U.S. History course would be good for anywhere from a 3-5 on the test.

3.0 out of 5 stars Three Stars for a Score of Three, July 21, 2007
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I just got my test results back, and I was relatively happy with a three. I outlined this book in the weeks before the testing day and I have to say it did help. My teacher also made us read specific chapters of Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States." Even though "Zinn" became the most popular swear word among my class, the book helped me superbly in my essays. I would recommend both Zinn and this for a good score of at least three, and possibly four if you studied harder than I did. If you are looking for a five, I would reccomend going to more than two sources - buy a few books and study off all you possibly can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I literally read 2 chapters out of the 30 some chapters in our AP US book and had a pretty bad teacher, but I studied like crazy out of this book and still got a 3. This book goes over the basic concepts you need to know to b.s your way around the multiple choice and essay questions.
highly recommend!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good review book, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I used this book last year when I was in 10th grade. I took the test and got a 4 on the test. I am very happy about it. The book has good "review" information and topics... however I would advise knowing the information before hand (reviewing notes/history book/etc). The book provides a few practice tests, although they are not TOTALLY realistic. The book is a good refresher and gives some good test taking tips, but many people are already familiar and aware of these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tests. Quick review, September 2, 2007
This review is from: Cracking the AP U.S. History Exam, 2006-2007 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
The tests were definitely the best. The review's a little brief but very very helpful for the essays, not so good for the multiple choice though. By reading this book and 5 steps to a 5, i got a 5.
