Too easy for difficult NCLEX,
By A reader from New York (NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cracking the NCLEX-RN with CD-ROM, 2000 Edition (Paperback)
This book covers various nursing subjects with interactive written review questions, diagrams and easy NCLEX type questions. It also presents test taking strategies. The subjects are presented in easy, straightforward format. However, there are no rationales. Rationales are very important to understand the answer. One needs to refer to other detailed books for explanations. The CD offers 8 full length review questions. No rationales are presented, it doesn't simulate NCLEX computer adaptive test experience because it uses mouse instead of space bar and enter key. Overall, this is ok for a first book to read to get one started to prepare for the NCLEX because it is easy to read. The questions are so easy, it will give one the confidence to think "Yes, I can do it!" This is the first stepping stone to go forward and get into more detailed and complex critical thinking review required to pass NCLEX. However, if one has limited financial and time resources, this is not the book. The presentation and questions are too easy for the difficult NCLEX-RN which requires detailed critical thinking and application.

Don't buy this book!,

This review is from: Cracking the NCLEX-RN with CD-ROM, 2000 Edition (Paperback)
I bought this book a few days before my exam just to get more practice questions using the cd-rom. I was very disappointed both with the caliber of questions -- much too easy and straightforward -- and the many mistakes on the disk -- it states one answer is right but the rationale supports a different answer. You don't need this kind of confusion when you are studying for the boards. Also the software does not mimic the actual test in terms of keyboarding and format the way the Saunders and Kaplan books do. All in all, a waste of time and money.

I passed the NCLEX-RN the 1st time with only 75 questions!,

This review is from: Cracking the NCLEX-RN with CD-ROM, 2000 Edition (Paperback)
This book provided a thorough explanation of the NCLEX-RN and its logistics, and gave quick yet comprehensive coverage of all the important subject areas. The best thing was the eight complete sample tests on the enclosed CD-ROM. The actual NCLEX was a breeze after the practice I was able to do with this book/CD.
