Accurate review book,
By Ben (CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cracking the SAT Math 1 and 2 Subject Tests, 2007-2008 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I took the math IIC test earlier today and the Princeton Review book was on target. The practice tests were very similar in difficulty level to the actual test itself, and the book's lessons and suggestions were very helpful as well as readable.I also own the Barrons review book, and while that was good to practice the toughest questions, it is really nothing like the test itself. So I recommend the Princeton Review over the Barrons to anyone looking for a sufficient review of the material and accurate practice for the exam.

Worthless,

This book is worthless for the Math Level 2. Doesn't cover everything in detail, doesn't explain most of the stuff - and the level is too easy.I mean, why would anyone pay $20 for this? If you want a GOOD score on the IIC, get something like Barron's or the "15 Realistic Tests" one. I admit they're way more difficult than the actual test standard, but you'll need it if you want to get anything above 750 - which isn't that much in the Level 2, as more than 10% of the test takers get a perfect score of 800. If you just want to see how much you get on a realistic SAT test, get the official SAT Subject Test Study Guide or the official SAT Math Study Guide, the CollegeBoard ones.

Too many errors for a 20 dollar book.,

I'm giving this book two stars because the actual review material was amazing, and really helped me understand math. However, this book has many errors. Most of the errors I remember were in the chapter with the answers to the drills and practice questions in tables. For example, for a couple of tables the page numbers the tables say they refer to are off. Another example, theres one spot where the answer in the answer column contradicts the answer the explanation says is correct. These kind of things drive me insane, and simply should not be in a book that costs twenty dollars. These errors are fixed by simple, simple proofreading. I also bought Princeton Review's Chemistry subject test guide, and because of that other book I will never buy anything from this company again.

Pretty good and straightforward review to prepare you for the SAT II Math. I started using this as a study guide a week before the test, and it helped very much. I'm currently taking Calculus, so Precal (most of Level 2 Math) and other subjects were forgotten. This book helped me remember and review many mathematical concepts, such as the arithmetic/geometric sequences, sum of sequences, and some handy equations. If you're taking the Math SAT, it's assumed that you're almost or already done with precalculus classes. This book is meant as a REVIEW, to refresh your memories on concepts you have already learned. There are some mistakes in the book, but overall, they're negligible. I took Math Level 2 and the practice test questions in this book are very similar to the actual SAT test questions. The Math Level 1 practice tests problems are good for practice. I definitely recommend this book. If you aren't a procrastinator like me (who started studying 1 week before), I also recommend the Baron's review too. That review book is a lot harder and detailed, but if you start studying a month before the actual test, Baron's the way to go.

Great math review book. Remember, it's REVIEW. The book expects you to have seen all these material in class before, but it's teaching it in a way and only little bits of parts of it: ALL you need to get a 700+ on the Math 2C/Math 1C SAT II tests. It's not saturated IN-DEPTH, so you probably WON'T get a 800 (85 percentile) with this book ALONE. Expect a 700+ if you review the whole book and the practice tests at the end. I got 710 and reviewed the book every day for 2 weeks, and took the practice tests, on SAT math 2. Make sure you buy Barron's if you want a perfect score , because it covers the material more in-depth; this is just a review!

I just took the SAT Math 1 on Saturday and this book helped me so much! I had about 3 other review book and this one was by far the best. If your taking a subject test I recommend to get two different reviews because some have info that others lack.

A great book for quick review,
This review is from: Cracking the SAT Math 1 and 2 Subject Tests, 2007-2008 Edition (College Test Preparation) (Paperback)
I am currently in Pre-Calculus and am taking the math I and II subject test right after my end of the year final exams. I would consider myself above average when it comes to math, and therefore this book was perfect for me. If you are currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus and are planning to take the math subject test and are somewhat good at math then I highly recommend this book. It goes over all the concepts, not in great amounts of picky detail, but it is a great tool that will start jogging your memory back. For me, it reviewed all the concepts that I have learned so far and told me exactly what I needed to know.If you are someone who is looking for a little more rigorous review for the subject tests and need to learn more of these concepts in detail then I would recommend that you go with McGraw Hill's or Barron's Math I or Math II Subject test books. Overall, it has about 300 pgs. of actual review, 2 practice tests for each math I and math II and if you know all the concepts but are just a little rusty on your memory, this brings everything right back. Hope this helps.

How did they make math fun???,

This prep book is amazing. I've tried all the other companies and Princeton Review writes as though the people who are purchasing the book do in fact need help in math. I'm taking several subject tests and by far studying for math is more fun than for other subjects because of the ease of reading this book.

I found a lot of errors in this book which led me to find out the true answers myself. Like in one drill question, you were suppose to use the volume of a cylinder, 1/3(Pie)(radius sq.'ed)(height). However, the explantion in the book to the answer forgot to use the (1/3)..Also, the drill answer pages don't correspond to the correct listed answer page.. Which makes it hard to find the answers for the drills. |
