3.0 out of 5 stars Good start, weak finish
What I'm seeing here is that DMX is trying to ride the make-a-movie-and-promote-all-your-boyz-in-the-soundtrack wave. It's been done. Regardless, I had to get the album cause the first single is deep. "X Gon Give It To Ya" is a nutts track any way that you slice the bread. What got me though, was the next three trax, starting with "Go to Sleep" (by Eminem, DMX, and Obie...

4.0 out of 5 stars Cradle 2 The Grave Sountrack, February 19, 2003
This review is from: Cradle 2 the Grave (Audio CD)
DMX (Earl Simmons) latest venture "Cradle 2 the Grave" soundtrack is decent. DMX produced the soundtrack, and appears on four of the tracks as well as co-stars with Jet Li in the upcoming movie. The first track and lead single is "X Gon'Give It To Ya" a hardcore banging track, X comes across raw and hungry on this one, took me a few listens to get hooked on this track, but when I did really enjoyed it. This is followed by
"Go To Sleep" - DMX feat. Eminem & Obie Trice, EM comes out strongest on this one. Bloodlines Bazaar Royale drop in for nice anthem "What's it all for" and bring a memorable distinct rap/rock sound. Hiphops hottest artist at the moment, 50 Cent & G-Unit crew come through on "Follow me Gangster" another ill track. Tempo changes a bit with the relaxed "My Life" Foxy Brown feat. Althea, a Rap/R&B track. Clipse come out grimy on "I'm Serious" a banging track with a sick beat. Favourite track though on this album is DMX's "Right/Wrong", love the way X comes out across on this one, and the way this track flows. Bloodlines Jinx & Loose come next with "It's Gon' Be What It's Gon' Be" a decent track followed by Big Stan's "Hand that Rocks the Cradle", both these tracks nicely display some of Bloodlines talent. All the rest of tracks after this are subpar, non memorable tracks with maybe exception of Profit's "Slang Dem Thangs". Tracks that could of been left off this album for sure: "C2G" (Fat Joe), "Wont be Coming Back" (Baby) and "Focus" (Kashmir). Overall "Cradle 2 Grave Soundtrack" is a decent album, with some nice tracks, and a show of some of X's label (Bloodline) talent. If the movie is as good as soundtrack, then DMX will be getting some more well deserved shine. Most of all though looking forward to X's fifth album coming out later this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix, July 1, 2003
This review is from: Cradle 2 the Grave (Audio CD)
It's good to see DMX back in the mix. He's one of only a few rappers today that has that raspy voice that commands attention. He gets thins going on the soundtrack's single `X Gon' Give It To Ya'. Solid track overall - good hook, lyrics, beat, and overall production. DMX is featured on four of the 19 tracks on this album. Track 2 is a personal favorite of mine. It features an Eminem, Obie Trice, and DMX collaboration that will hype up any crowd and it even makes reference to Ja Rule, whom the Shady Records camp and DMX have been feuding with these past months. These three rappers do an excellent job complementing each other on this high-energy track. Foxy Brown, Joe Budden, M.O.P., 50 Cent, are also featured on this soundtrack. It'll be sure to give you that those raw vocals you've been looking for. One of the few soundtracks I have picked up in a long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Im suprised!!, March 22, 2003

First of i dont really like soundtracks. So i was kinda aprehensive about purchasing this. I went out to America and saw the movie and thought it was good. So I decided to get the soundtrack. Its positive, I mean there are sum bad tunes but there are also some really really good tunes.
My favourites off this soundtrack are:

1. Go to sleep (DMX ft Eminem and Obie Trice)- This is a hot tune right here, Eminem probably comes out best lyrically but I think DMX''s one verse is hot and also obie trice makes this song even hotter. The best song off the album.

2. X gonna give it 2 ya - This tune is good, This the main single and I like it.

There are some other gud tunes but those are my standout tunes for the album. The worst tunes r fat joes tune. That is awful, the guy needs help seriously.

Anyway i liked it and its worth the purchase for 2 HOT tunes and 4 or 5 other ok ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars insane!!!, March 2, 2003

I enjoy almost every song on this cd. If it wasnt for the foxy brown song and the fat joe song i would be addicted to every song on this cd! even those songs are hot, i just dont think it is their best work. Joe Budden has an amazing song on this cd! Drop, Drop (the non- Nba Livestyle mix version) I love drag-on's song. DMX has a song called Right/Wrong that I feel is better than "x gon give it 2 ya" and 50 cent's song is crazy, eminem and obie trice have an awesome song with dmx too. this cd is the best soundtrack out! It rivals 8 mile.

But DMX's X GON' GIVE IT 2 YA is the best of these bests. Also other DMX songs are great too. In short this soundtrack is the first best rap soundtrack...

What got me though, was the next three trax, starting with "Go to Sleep" (by Eminem, DMX, and Obie Trice) is hard-core. Having Em & X together on a track is crazy, and Obie, well, he's just sik. He's more talented than any of the new names in rap and he proves it with his part in the song. "Go to Sleep" makes me want to get up and start a massicare, "Em let me fire some shots too, please"!! I was into the huge rock/rap genre when Limp was big, but since they fell of the map no one has been able to throw in an electric with some sik beats... until now. Bazzar Royale has some loud guitar rifts mixed in with some even louder lyrics that make for a song that's gotta be cranked. 50 doesn't disappoint, teaming up with his cronies from G-Unit for a hard-core song. The rest of the album is pretty weak, with the only exception being DMX with, probably, the best song on the album; "Right/Wrong". I could listen to it all day. DMX definately wants to make a point that he's still a badass, and can still have some illness to his game. From what I've seen of X's acting, it's a good thing that he's still got it when it comes to muzik.

5.0 out of 5 stars He gave it 2 ya, March 11, 2003
This review is from: Cradle 2 the Grave (Audio CD)
The soundtrack for "Cradle 2 The Grave" is much better than most soundtrack Cd's. The songs; "X Gonna Give It To Yea", "Go To Sleep", "Fellow Me Gangsta", "Fireman", "What's It All For" and "My Life", made this soundtrack a automatic heavyweight. The talent of Bloodline Records are ready for the rap game. They might be another Ruff Ryder group and a much better crew then Murder Inc. This soundtrack is a must have.
