New CoF, December 25, 1999
This review is from: From Cradle to Enslave (Audio CD)
Cradle certaintly have come a long way since Orgiastic Pleasures back in '92. The new disc, "From the Cradle to Enslave" is not the greatest Cradle of Filth CD, but it deserves the 5 stars anyway. Dani Filth and company have taken a new approach to songwriting, as the title track has a definite commercial twinge to it (well, as commercial as black metal can get). The other tracks, "Of Dark Blood and F**king," "Death Comes Ripping," (A Misfits cover), "Sleepless," (an Anathema cover), and two remixes, a techno remix of "Cradle" and a remake of the CoF classic "Funeral in Carpathia," are also fairly trimmed up; much more straightforward than tracks from "Dusk and Her Embrace," some of which sprawl on for 8 to 9 minutes. It even conjurs memories of "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh (an album which even die-hard Cradle fans have never heard). In effect, "Cradle to Enslave" is definitely for the die-hard fan, as well as for the newer fans. I wouldn't reccomend it as an introduction for new listeners though, as it is not an accurate representation of the group, and is more of a look at what's to come with the new album. New listeners should definitely go check out "Cruelty and the Beast." That's all for now. Hope I helped.

It takes a little understanding., December 17, 1999
This review is from: From Cradle to Enslave (Audio CD)
This CD is only for the COF fans of a loyal following. To understand this EP you would have to understand COF. If you are one to collect their music no matter what kind of direction they choose to try, then this is a good one to have. If not and this will be your first time listening to them, definitely listen to their previous albums. This is a great way to make the anticipation of their next album even more. Also, purchase their new video "PanDaeMonAeom" (something like that) it will really get you inside of COF. COF will always be on top.
