Join the Handmade Movement!

We make to give. We make to share. We make to connect with others. Crafters all over the world are using their hands and hearts to make a statement, change the world, and build community.

Craft Activism is an inspiring celebration of this growing movement. Inside, dozens of superstars of this grassroots phenomenon share their experiences, tips, and advice on living, teaching, and promoting a more meaningful DIY lifestyle. Learn to craft for your cause, connect with other crafters, think green, organize a fair, host an online exchange, create yarn graffiti, and more. The book also includes 17 creative projects from designers who challenge you to reimagine how your craft skills can be used to make a difference. Whether you knit, sew, crochet, or collage—and even if you’re not sure where to begin—this book is your guide to the incredible power of handmade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Craft activism November 18, 2011
By Linda
Format:Paperback
Another great collaboration from Tapper/Zucker. Yes it will give you the itch to create, and yes it makes you realize how the tradition of craft can have great meaning and bring you together as community - while having a lot of fun. It's also a great read with gorgeous pictures- with information on organizations, events and sites where craft and cause go hand in hand. Are you ready to be a knit-bomber?

And look for copies of the(out of print) title Shear Sprit.

This book is a reminder that there is not an app for everything. Craft Activism is all about enduring relationships to each other, the earth, ideas, materials, community, the senses, and art. Add in gorgeous photography and you have a gem of a book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny-- and inspiring November 14, 2011
By barcar
Format:Paperback
Craft Activism is a fun book...fascinating and witty--both the writing and the photography. Gale Zucker has a wonderful eye for the absurd or the funny or the inspiring, and Joan Tapper writes with empathy and clarity and in fine style. I have enjoyed this book enormously--and I'm not even a knitter. If you ARE a knitter--this has got to be a must read; if you just like to learn about original people creating unusual crafts for a cause, again it's a must.
