Possibly the best book written on Masonry for Masons,
By Joseph Durham (Sardinia, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Craft and Its Symbols (Hardcover)
For those that have entered the world of Freemasonry and want to understand more this book should be your guide. Mr Roberts presents a piece of work that will forever be important and remembered within the world of Masonry. If you are not a Mason, this book will give you a wonderful grasp of the fraternity. Every Mason should have a copy of this book as well as the wife or closest relation to that individual. For those that thought the world of Freemasonry was so secret here is a book that will open the world in a new.Read it not only once, but several times. You'll love it. I know that I did, and I still do. Take it from a man who has read this book more than five times.

Excellent introduction to the craft!,

This book was given to me after I received my EA degree, and has been a valuable learning aid through all of the blue lodge degrees. I believe all EAs in the lodges around here are presented with a copy of this book, which gives one an idea of how highly it is looked upon.Bro. Roberts was an excellent scholar and author and his books will remain an enjoyable staple of Masonry for generations to come.

This book was given to me after I was raised. One of only two books handed out by the lodge, I finished it that very night. This book does an excellent job explaining some of those rather obscure symbols that you may have happened across. From the EA thru MM, the high points are covered without giving too much away. I leave this one laying out, hoping for people to ask me.

Excellent gift for a new Mason,
By Richard T. Mason (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Craft and Its Symbols (Hardcover)
I read this book just after I became a Master Mason (years ago). I read the book again last year and for its size there sure is a lot of great information. There are answers to a lot of questions that new Masons have and there are a lot of excellent explinations of Masonic symbols. I find that I use this as a reference when asked questions by non-Masons about the different symbols. A perfect example is when I am asked why the square and compasses are important in Freemasonry the answer and explination are in the book. Our lodge is now presenting these books to newly raised Masons as a gift. I would recomment that all new Mason read it.

After reading this book, which was recommended to me, it allowed me to better understand why I did the things I did from the time I entered freemasonry to where I am today. I still refer to it from time to time.

An important look at the symbols of Freemasonry,
By edg@greenberg.org (Ed Greenberg, San Jose, California) - See all my reviews

Symbols mean what we interpret them to mean. If you ascribe a new meaning to that symbol, then the symbol takes on that meaning for you. If you ascribe a sinister connotation, or one that others consider sinister, you do nothing to change the essential character of the symbol, but rather, only your own interpretation of it. Others, who ascribe different meanings to that symbol, are not even remotely affected by your decision. The Craft and Its Symbols presents the traditional Masonic interpretation of many symbols, and is a great value in understanding the lessons taught in the Masonic degrees. My Lodge tries to have one of these presented to each new Mason.

Excellent book, a must have for all Mason's libraries. I couldn't put the book down; I wished I had had this book as I was being raised. Mr. Roberts explains all three degrees and symbols in such an excellent manner which makes it easy for a person to understand. Having read this book, I now understand more about the background of the degrees then I did before. I can only imagine how great it would have been to have had him as my instructor during my degree work. Every lodge should present his book to each new EA (as some lodges currently do). I know in the future when I am asked about Masonry, I will let the person borrow my book. Then I will present one to him upon being initiated as an EA. I have never read a book twice, but this is one book I will read over and over again. I just can't say enough about how wonderful it is!

I thought this book was excellent for the deeper explaination of the three degrees!! Certainly a must for all brothers that want a more "in-depth" look at the degree work.

This book goes into more detail of the symbolism of each degree. If you are in the craft you will understand more of the meaning of its contents.
