Craft ROBO/ Silhouette CC330L-20 SD Digital Craft Cutting Machine for scrapbooking, crafts, vinyl, & more

I purchased the Silhouette SD after reading reviews for many similar products. I chose it because it appeared to be the best priced product that would suit my needs. I wanted to use it for paper art and book making. This is my first experience with digital cutters. I was hopeful, but based on the reviews I had read I was afraid that I would have trouble getting it to work with my computer, etc. As it turned out I had no problems whatsoever. I took it out of the box, designed a piece, and had it cut out within 3 hours. The machine has exceeded my expectations in every way. I had no problem getting it to work with my laptop. The drawing program that comes with the machine is much better than I expected. I did go ahead and purchase an older copy of Corel Draw so that I could make my own designs more easily. I downloaded the plug in for it and it cuts beautifully from Corel! I'm very pleased. I do think that a person needs to have a fair amount of computer savvy to be comfortable setting up and using the machine. Also, if you have never used a computer drawing program, the drawing aspect will take some practice. On a scale of 0-10, 0 being computer dummy and 10 being total techno-geek, I consider myself about 6.

The ROBO/Silhouette does an excellent job of cutting out patterns, both homemade and downloaded/purchased. It took me a minute or two to figure out the "getting a paper registered" with the optical sensor on the head, and which blade to use, but that's it. It's made life so much simpler for me; I generate a lot of gaming terrain and moveable book material, so it's tremendously efficient in the hardest area for me: cutting complex curves.

The software makes it easy to create your own designs, or to outline items you scan in (like a photo of your family, and you want to make a pop-up). There's also lots of patterns (GSD files are what this takes, fairly popular format) free and purchasable on the internet.

I definitely recommend this digital cutter; it does amazing work!

i had been looking for something to cut paper, stickers, transfers etc.. digitally and this product does it perfectly!!

the software that comes with it (i use it on mac) is very easy to use and simple to either purhcase / create your own cutting images. i've created loads already either by importing a picture i want to copy and tracing it, or by simply making it up.

typing words to make signs works extremely well. simply select the font, type whatever you like.. and print / cut.

Right now i use it to make some wooden signs (i'll try to upload the results) but it works perfectly - extremely happy.

if you need to cut out intricate detail from paper or other thin material - this is absolutely for you. highly recommended.

This is a great little machine! I have owned the previous 2 versions of the craft robo (same machine different branding) and this one is even better than the last two. I wish I could tell the reviewer who left the 1 star to not give up and to keep tying. It took me a couple of times of giving up and throwing it back in the box for a couple of days before I fell in love. I use a combination of Silhouette Studio software and Adobe Illustrator. I design most of my own lettering and graphics, but the Silhouette online store has a ton of cute pre-designed ones too. Don't waste your money on cricut cartridges that you only use a couple of times!

If you can't get it to cut, you need to try varying the speed, the pressure, and the blade depth (colored caps). After the first couple of years, I did purchase the after market blade holder and blades, which give it more flexibility since you don't have caps, you just twist to get more cutting depth. I also make my own cutting mats using stencil material and a spray can of re-positional adhesive. I always use a mat, even to cut vinyl. My last project was vinyl lettering on wood blocks. I cut over 1500 letters with 1 blade. FYI: When you cut paper it dulls the blade much quicker.

I use it for heat transfer vinyl, wall vinyl, scrapbook paper letters, and I haven't ever had a problem as long as I do a couple of test cuts until I get the combination right. I can't wait to afford the new Cameo with it's increased cutting width and length, and new blade holder. Although, I love the portability of this light weight one. I can throw it in a bag with my laptop and cut just about anywhere! Best Wishes

It was easy to install and cut with. It works on a mac! yay! I have cut vinyl and card stock so far. I do recommend getting some extra cutting mats because mine doesn't hold the stuff down well anymore (after much use) and therefore the cuts don't come out right. My favorite part is that with a little learning you can find any image on the whole internet (for personal use or not copyrighted) and turn it into a cut. What sold this machine for me was that it didn't use those rip-off cartridges that cost an arm and a leg.

I purchased this machine to print and cut, which it will not do. i am fairly computer savvy and can follow directions, customer support was not helpful as they do not guarantee results if you are using your own designs.It is a waste of money.

It's a great product you just have to play around with it before you can get used to the setting
