More About the Author

erick alayon has been tattooing professionally for twenty two years and lives with his wife and four kids in Rocky Point, Long Island, NY.

his websites are:

A lot of tattoo artists have a great time poking fun at my writing, which is an easy thing to do! But the single most important thing they can't say anything about is my tattoos. It's ironic that I've looked at most of these Tattoo "artists" work and most of them really shouldn't be talking (or tattooing)!

It's true I'm only a novice writer, as my writing clearly demonstrates. But I'm a professional Tattoo Artist as my tattoos clearly demonstrate. And that is what my books are about, TATTOOING, NOT WRITING!

When looking over a tattoo book to purchase the most important thing to look at is the authors TATTOOS, not whether or not he has won any literary awards. Google their name and see what comes up. Put TATTOO after their name.

ANYBODY WHO WRITES A BOOK ON TATTOOS, I DON'T CARE HOW WELL IT'S WRITTEN, IF THEY CAN'T TATTOO OR DON'T MAKE THEIR TATTOOS AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO SEE, BE VERY CAREFUL! And really look at their tattoos. Are they good for someone who is still learning or are they professionally done?

See my tattoos at: www.erocktattoo.com and www.tattoolous.com

I have nothing to hide!

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest book out there for beginners., June 4, 2008
This review is from: The Craft of Tattooing (Paperback)
This book covers all the things that one is afraid to ask in risk of sounding stupid.
But I am a total amateur. I Have never picked up a tattoo machine before and my closest contact to one was when getting tattooed. So I was left in the dark a bit on ultra basic things like how to set up the clip cord on the machine and such.
Aside from that Erick did a great job putting it all out there for the aspiring tattooer. He speaks in layman terms, shares great tips and walks you through the entire process very thoroughly.
I highly recommend this book to all beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is great buy!!, February 11, 2009

This review is from: The Craft of Tattooing (Paperback)
I have ordered all three of his books. This books is his second book. It follows up on all the things he missed in his last book. So if you read his first book and had a lot of questions, this one will sum it all up for you. This book is great for people like me who have a hard time getting an apprenticeship. It will help you build your portfolio so that it will be a lot easier when you do get one, and he tells you a lot about the things you need to watch your back for. The grammar isn't perfect, and the book isn't quite the traditional style of writing, but WHO CARES! His writing makes it way easier to read because he writes as if he speaking directly to you. I do agree with some however that he doesn't teach every little thing and that an apprenticeship is necessary, but he helps you take your first big step into the tattooing world. I am very thankful that he wrote his books. Its a very helpful guide for us newbies in the tattooing world.
