The greatest book out there for beginners.,
By
This review is from: The Craft of Tattooing (Paperback)
This book covers all the things that one is afraid to ask in risk of sounding stupid.
But I am a total amateur. I Have never picked up a tattoo machine before and my closest contact to one was when getting tattooed. So I was left in the dark a bit on ultra basic things like how to set up the clip cord on the machine and such. Aside from that Erick did a great job putting it all out there for the aspiring tattooer. He speaks in layman terms, shares great tips and walks you through the entire process very thoroughly. I highly recommend this book to all beginners.

I have ordered all three of his books. This books is his second book. It follows up on all the things he missed in his last book. So if you read his first book and had a lot of questions, this one will sum it all up for you. This book is great for people like me who have a hard time getting an apprenticeship. It will help you build your portfolio so that it will be a lot easier when you do get one, and he tells you a lot about the things you need to watch your back for. The grammar isn't perfect, and the book isn't quite the traditional style of writing, but WHO CARES! His writing makes it way easier to read because he writes as if he speaking directly to you. I do agree with some however that he doesn't teach every little thing and that an apprenticeship is necessary, but he helps you take your first big step into the tattooing world. I am very thankful that he wrote his books. Its a very helpful guide for us newbies in the tattooing world.

I'm not an apprentice tattooer but I bought this book because I own the other two in this series. I wish I had this when I first started out! It would have saved me lots of headaches and lots of money on supplies I didn't need! Answers a lot of questions an apprentice will have. This is a great book that should be read by every apprentice.

I have never touched a tattoo machine. But after reading this book I feel more confident about how to handle it. Also, where and how to look for an apprenticeship. I'm glad that Erik took the time to write something that is going to be a great benefit to me. I still don't plan on doing any work until I read through it again and check over the notes that I have taken. I'm so glad that this is book is out there. He don't make you feel like crap because you are new to the tattoo game. He gives me the feeling that everyone has to start somewhere, even if it's reading a book. Thank you Erik. You're the best!

The book was good, but not for me I already knew most of the things in it. Their are some small details that will help me, and I'm sure it could help alot of others. The best part of this book is the authors reading suggestions, also I bought his more advanced book as well and am about to read that.

I bought this book a few months ago and I have read it a couple times. I have also spoken to Erick via "MySpace" about a few things I still did not understand, He was very helpful and cool about answering all my questions.
I have no formal training or opportunity for training and this book has helped me to do a total of 17 tattoos so far. Which have turned out very well actually.
