5.0 out of 5 stars I'm totally getting this book for everyone this holiday season!
I am possibly the least "crafty" person in the world. It took me three days to assemble a bbq grill and I've learned the hard way not to shop at Ikea (would it kill the Swedes to assemble the dag hammerskold chaise-lounge for me?). SO, reading a how-to type book that is SO FUNNY and so inclusive of non-crafters (un-crafters?) like me was really refreshing. The projects...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nautical knots?
I sadly had to return this book. I just didn't get it- could entirely be me based on the positive reviews, but the book is light on both craft ideas and party ideas. The suggestions weren't my thing either- a nautical knot tying party? Nope.

The projects the author describes are doable and even if they are not, the fun to be had while attempting them is delicious. I am not going to get it together to knit anyone a sweater for Christmas or make a potholder for Channukah but I am definitely going to buy a bunch of these books for folks this holiday season. I really recommend it.

This book gives lots of great ideas for fun projects and encourages socializing while crafting. In hard economic times it makes sense to make your own fun and this book is a great help. It makes you smile to read it.

Crafternoon is not intended as a manual for experienced craftspeople, rather it is a seriously fun tool for building community through the creative recreational arts. Perfect for the new kid on the block who is looking to get to know the neighbors!

I loved this book. After buying a copy for myself I bought a few others as gifts. Having crafting parties is such a terrific idea and this book is a perfect guide for making this happen! The directions are clear, the projects are fun and the tips are really helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Craft your own community, October 27, 2008
This review is from: Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long (Paperback)
It's so hard to find community these days, so why don't we "craft" it? That's exactly what this charming book teaches us to do. Using skills of older generations to bring our own generation (and even younger) together to chat, support, snack and craft. Having belonged in the past to a quilting club, and I am about the last person in the world that I ever would have expected at a quilting club, I can personally attest to how great these types of group activities can be to create a sense of community. This book is a great gift for a friend who might miss making macrame owls and colorful God's eyes at summer camp and craves the opportunity to re-live those days with like minded friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars crafternoon, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long (Paperback)
Offers good ideas for starting up a craft group for you and friends. Also, author has a sense of humor that makes it entertaining. I would have liked her to offer ideas for using more than one medium for each month.

5.0 out of 5 stars A DIY Delight, April 7, 2010
This review is from: Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long (Paperback)
This is a must for anyone who enjoys crafting. The projects are interesting and accessible and the communal spirit the book promotes is refreshing. But maybe the best thing about this book -- and what distinguishes it from others on the subject -- is that it is such a great read. Madden writes with wit and warmth and the guide will keep you entertained from start to finish. Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long

I had so much fun working on projects from this book with friends. Madden is a talented writer and crafter with a witty sensibility that makes for a unique DIY read. I like the knots, made a knot necklace and have received many compliments.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Crafternoon" is an eclectic masterpiece. Read, apply, and be Blessed!, November 20, 2008
This review is from: Crafternoon: A Guide to Getting Artsy and Crafty with Your Friends All Year Long (Paperback)
Maura Madden's Book, "Crafternoon" is an eclectic masterpiece. Purchase this book for you and your loved ones and you will reap what you sow.....lot's of blessings. This book speaks fellowship to me. It will bring you back to the basics of life where friends (old and new) will gather around the table, have fun, share love, share good conversations, eat, drink, and if you so choose, make a craft or two.

I am honored to personally know Maura Madden. She is one of a kind. I had the opportunity to watch Maura in action as a stand-up comedian at a very popular comedy club in Manhattan. I have been blessed to have Pam Madden, Maura's mother, as my very dear friend and colleague. During the many years that I've known Pam, I've been a very gracious recipient of some of the craftiest crafts (some edible and some not so edible).

Read (and apply) this book and be blessed. Lots of Love to you all. <><. Loretta
