Pattern sourcebooks have been popular with crafters since the mid-19th century. MacCarthy (Decorative Stencils for Your Home) here compiles a personal selection of line drawings of historic patterns representing many cultures and many media, from ceramics to wall paintings. Similar to clip art, the individual motifs may be photocopied, enlarged, or otherwise adapted for the user's own projects. Color photographs of sample projects are included, but there are no step-by-step instructions. Motif sources are listed at the end of the book. A good selection for crafts collections.

This is a wonderful book with over a thousand designs and motifs that come from a wide variety of cultures. Whether you are looking for a simplistic design or an intricate one, this is your book. It also gives brief descriptions on the techniques necessary to use the designs for stenciling, stamping, painting, beading as well as many of the needle arts. This book is perfect for the advanced as well as the beginner.

Absolutely the best pattern sourcebook I have ever seen. I use it all the time! for inspiration to lead me to the design as well as straight use of the designs in the book... papercrafts, fabric arts, glasswork... Cards, boxes, ceramics, quilts... it's helpful for all!
