Editorial Reviews

Crafts for the Field covers some of the skills we get asked about most . This video investigates the thermoplastic called Kydex and how to mold and use it. It shows you how to cover a Kydex sheath (one you already own or one you make following the video instructions) with leather to give the sheath that Woodsmaster look without losing the safety of Kydex. The video shows you how to make a small concealed carry holster from kydex, how to make leather buttons, a ditty bag, and a special Woodsmaster fingerless glove. Along the way you will learn a bunch of special Woodsmaster tricks and techniques. The skills in this video can save you much more than the cost of the video AND give you the skills you need to make your own gear for the field. It's a stunner and fun to watch as well! Ron Hood, B.A. M.S. Ed.D. (ABD) developed his early wilderness interests as a member of the Military Intelligence Community while in the Army Security Agency (ASA). After training, Ron spent a year in the Middle East and nearly 18 months in Vietnam. Since the military Ron taught accredited classes in Wilderness Skills at two Universities for over 20 years, authored numerous articles for National magazines, published a Guidebook to the Sierra as well as appearing on many TV and Radio Programs. Ron spends much of his time learning, practicing and studying wilderness and survival skills with native populations around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good lesson for basic sheathing, January 31, 2012
This review is from: Crafts for the Field: Woodsmaster Volume 14 (DVD) (DVD)
This is my second Rob Hood (R.I.P.) video I have purchased. The first, Survival Basics I & II (5 stars) was purchased here. I picked up this copy at Survival Tactics in Reynoldsburg Ohio for more than listed on Amazon, but it was an impulse buy based on the first purchase. I will be ordering many more from here soon.
This title is a little misleading, as it is shot in his house and he is teaching crafts for tools you will use in the field.
Ron is a very fun person to watch. He is a no BS, no superhero type of guy. He will not edit out mistakes, but laugh at them and make you see how to fix them. His leasons are like listening to an old friend explain to you what to do over a beer.
This video is all about using Kydex plastic for sheath molds and leather cases and gloves. You do not need a workshop for this. He does it all in his basement with simple tools. The concepts of measuring and use of patterns is shown and easily understood. I am looking forward to a dozen other projects that this video made me think of and I now feel confident I can do.
THANK YOU WOODMASTER !!
