5.0 out of 5 stars Great craft guide to connect children with other cultures., September 28, 2003

This review is from: Crafts of Many Cultures (Grades 1-6) (Paperback)
Starting with the dedication "We are all related," this book goes on to unite each one of us, no matter what heritage we hold close to the heart. A craft from each culture is represented with step-by-step directions and a picture of the finished product.

Countries from all over the world are represented here: North America (United States, Mexico, Canada), Central America (Guatemala, Panama), Caribbean (Haiti, Puerto Rico), South America (Peru, Ecuador, Brazil), Africa (Morocco, W. Africa, Ghana), Asia (Turkey, Java, Bali, India, Japan, China, Cambodia), and Europe (England, Italy, Poland, Russia, Greece), Australia (New South Wales and the Northern Territory), and Greenland (North Inspectorate).

Great way to introduce other countries and cultures to children as young as 5 years old. Great teaching tool to have as a resource for craft needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contents, June 26, 2009
This review is from: Crafts of Many Cultures (Grades 1-6) (Paperback)
Although it's not 100%, I would classify it as mainly "Crafts of Many Indigenous Cultures". Each project includes B&W photo, background info, materials, directions and several follow-up ideas. I have many of these "multicultural craft-type" books which tend to contain a lot of the same projects, this one has many that I have not yet seen before. Includes: Southwest Native: Mimbres Pottery, USA: Carousel Animals, Mexico: Paper-maché Mermaids & Huichol Yarn Paintings, Canada: Eskimo Soapstone Carvings, Guatemala: Bird Puppets, Panama: Molas, Haiti: Steel Drum Cut-outs, Puerto Rico: Gourd Bowls, Peru: Dance Capes, Ecuador: Fiesta Headdresses, Brazil: Tin-can Vehicles, Morocco: Khamsas/Good Luck Hands, West Africa: Adire/Tie-dye, Ghana: Linguist Staffs, Turkey: Kilims, Java: Wayang Kulit/Shadow Puppets, Bali: Widyadhari/Guardian Angels, India: Miniature Paintings, Japan: Woodblock Prints, China: Scrolls, Cambodia: Hmong Story Cloths; England: Rocking Horses, Italy: Marionettes, Poland: Wycinanki/Paper Cut-outs, Russia: Flax Dolls, Greece: Amphorae/Urns, Australia's Northern Territory: Aboriginal Bark Paintings, Australia's New South Wales: Aboriginal Dream Maps, Greenland's Northern Inspectorate: Eskimo Dolls.
