Purchased this leaf blower because my old Craftsman leaf blower lasted about 25 years. The new-one lasted just 3 times. Of course.... it was about 3 weeks out of warranty (90 days). In addition, don't go to Sears.com and read the reviews for Craftsman products. Prior to purchasing this unit, I checked their site and found only two complaints with about 40 favorable reviews. Surely, the two were unusual situations... right! Absolutely, not true. I composed a review of my experience and clicked enter. Never showed-up in the reviews. Apparently, Sears.com is editing the poor reviews. Luckily, Amazon.com takes care of their customers and lists good and bad reviews. Will I be sending this leaf blower to a Craftsman Repair Center..... absolutely not. No use wasting more money on junk. Let's see.... which leaf blower's on sale at Amazon.com.

Metal impeller has held up very well to all sorts of large seeds, nuts, and gravel that get sucked in. Plenty of power. I've used it for about five years now. The only thing to wear out has been the plug and the bag. I replaced the plug and have sewn up the bag so many times that it's time for a replacement bag (if only I could find one). Would be nice if so much dust didn't pass through the bag. For that, I take off one star from an otherwise great machine.

It does not vacuum up the lava rocks! Yeah!

We need a yard vacuum. We have a small yard with low maintenance plants and rocks. The neighbors have huge trees that reach into our property. These trees dump copious volumes of leaves all over the yard. Hence, the need for this yard vac.

Positives
It is lighter than most blower/vacs’. This allows two lightweights to do the yard.
Over time, it does get heavy; so we take two rest breaks, doing the back yard is done in three short sessions.

It is not very noisy, see above (you still need ear protection though).

It does not have major vacuum power. You need to have the vacuum pretty much perpendicular to the ground. With low power the dry leaves are easily vacuumed leaving the lava rocks in place.

Negatives
Initial setup is a pain. The vacuum directions are actually the mulching directions; but are not easily labeled as such. Regardless of length, the instructions are sparse on details. It took two adults over an hour to figure out how to configure this as a yard vac. The illustrations and directions for this are ridiculously non-detailed and you have to flip pages to see the tiny illustrations that are not helpful anyway. The photo on the box is too dark to decipher.

It is very hard to fit the vacuum/mulching tubes into the (underneath) motor housing for the vacuum. I had to prop up the housing and forcibly wiggle and jiggle the pieces. We will keep this assembled. No one wants to go through that again.

Asides
1)It has a short, about a foot, power cord. If you already have an outdoor extension, great; it not you need to get one that accepts polarized (2 prong, one wider) plugs (our 30-year old outdoor extension did not fit their plug).
2)You also need eye protection, ear protection and good shoes (a yard outfit to catch some dust is a nice to have too).

The bag ripped during the second use. I'm on the phone with Craftsman-care or whatever now trying to get another bag. First was told there was a one year warranty but the site clearly states two years. They checked and agreed its two years, then I told them the bag tore after the second use and I want another bag. They now tell me there is only a 90-day warranty on the bag?? Where did that come from?? Just making up rules as they go. Sears sucks. Craftsman sucks.

In addition to the cheap bag, this blower is heavy and uncomfortable after any extended use. The cord retainer also doesn't work well at all and the cord often comes free and disconnects. The vacuum is also VERY uncomfortable to use for taller people. I need to hunch over to reach the ground with it. Its more suited for people 5' 8" or below. Definitely NOT for me @ 6' 2". Lastly, the intake (mulch/vacuum) gate doesn't stay closed when working the blower at different angles and it pops open and the blower shuts off. Bad design. All in all a bad product and terrible customer support.

Pretty impressive for the single hour it worked. Didn't make it through one lawn. Just slowed and stopped making an awful bearing noise. What the heck happened to Craftsman?
