5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Fabulous!
This book is chock full of fun and fabulous projects for anyone. The kitsch factor is high - these crafts will surely bring a smile to your face! I have found the instructions clear and easy to follow, and the projects have inspired a few kitschy brainstorms of my own!

3.0 out of 5 stars there's a reason these crafts got lost
i really, really wanted to love this book.
I've been a member of craftster since the begining and gotten some awesome ideas from there, and this book got so many positive reviews.
But I don't buy craft books to say how fun the projects are.

There are a few little cute projects (headband, snow globe, book purse) but you can learn how to make them anywhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and impractical..., February 4, 2008
This review is from: The Craftster Guide to Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts: Fifty Fabulous Projects from the Fifties and Sixties (Paperback)
I guess I'll be the voice of dissent here, since everybody else apparently LOVED this book and its projects. I thought there weren't enough easy, do-able projects and some (the percolator/urn lamp, popsicle-stick purse, etc) were just plain weird. And where's the irony Craftster is known for?

PLEASE - don't get me wrong! I love kitsch, and I love Craftster! And there is so much fun and practical kitsch floating around on Craftster, I guess I just figured this would be a "best of"... to me, this just seemed like a collection of projects that are better off left in the past.

What I'd love to see from Kramer would be a "best of Craftster" - that would be fabulous! In the meantime, pass on this book and go for one of the other fine collections of vintage-type crafts already out there.

I love looking through this book and getting inspired--the writing is so fun and the design overall is just so kitschy-cool! All the projects I've made from it turned out great, and I've had so much fun going through it and choosing what to do next.

I loooooooooove this book! I haven't attempted any of the projects yet but plan to. My favorites are the Loincloth and Popsicle Stick Purse. If you like kitsch you should buy this book.

I just got this book from my uncle for my birthday, and It is the best one I've seen. It has fun, clever writing and great projects- things i actually want and things my friends would want as gifts. The book is filled with clever ideas that are not difficult and well explained. I reccommend wholeheartedly! Buy it now, and go join craftster at craftster.org!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing DIY project book!, June 1, 2006
This review is from: The Craftster Guide to Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts: Fifty Fabulous Projects from the Fifties and Sixties (Paperback)
This book is great! You don't have to be a Level 5 Craftster to do all of the projects in it, some of them are very simple and things you can do with kids. Others are a little more complex, but still a ton of fun! The pages are colorful, cute, and perky and reading the book is almost like an adventure. One of the best features of "The Craftster Guide to Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts" is seeing the "retro" versions of many of the crafts within the pages of the directions. Such an awesome idea! If you're a Do It Yourselfer, Craftster, or just want to have some fun then this is DEFINITELY the book for you!
