This is NOT "The End" of Weird Al! (Although it sounds like it!), June 15, 2009
The satire master Al Yankovic puts a psychedelic spin on the Craigslist counter-culture with a song that takes its cues from songs by The Doors like "The End" and "Light My Fire". It sounds authentic, like the platter just dropped on the turntable in 1967. The video is also great with that Whiskey-A-Go-Go vibe. The Doors' music always makes me feel dirty, like I need a shower and so does Craigslist.com, so I guess Al hit the nail on the head in his style choice! I've been a faithful Al fan since '83. This is not his best lyrical work in my opinion but it is really great quality nonetheless. And it hits a style that Al hasn't really played with so I'm glad he did it. My only worry for Al is that this single will go totally over the heads of a huge audience of younger folks that had 80's kids for parents, like my kids. They have no real way to understand the style references and could care less about Craigslist but maybe I worry too much. They LOVE Weird Al! Take a listen and enjoy the trip.
edit: An additional note: Weird Al doesn't usually need any help making stuff sound "authentic", but he got The Doors' keyboardist Ray Manzarek himself to play keyboards on this track... so there's no question why it sounds so perfectly 60's! It really IS Weird Al and The Doors! Wow!

Yes, I want your styrofoam peanuts!, June 27, 2009
"Me, in leather pants, trying to look like a smoldering, damaged poet." --Al Yankovic on his MySpace Blog, describing the theme of his video for his hilarious new song, "Craigslist".
Al digs up some angst and channels it in the style of The Doors' own Jim Morrison, as he pokes fun at the personal ads, angst-filled diatribes and absurdly demanding for sale posts we've all grown to love on Craigslist.
Musically, Al captures the sound of The Doors' with the help of the original keyboardist Ray Manzarek! You'll laugh out loud at the cultural references--especially the spot-on impression of a cellphone user who holds up the line at Starbucks.
At the time of this writing, the single is #2 and rising in the mp3 Comedy category...so turn on your lava lamp, squeeze into your leather pants and crank up this hilarious Weird Al tune!

Eh, not bad., June 21, 2009
So I have, like most of us, been an Al fan since childhood and I must say this is fun and interesting, but not his best work.
I like that Al has done this "throwback" song in the style of "The Doors" with the cover art there to go with it that is fun. I appreciate that Al has always been a very fun, although great and serious musician. This is another track that proves that. He does not just parody The Doors, he has gone out of his way to attempt to recreate the tone and instrumental style. I respect that a lot.
As for lyrics, they are alright. Not quite as funny as past tracks making fun of websites or computers, but still entertaining. If you have ever been on Craigslist, then you have seen the type of things that he is singing about. There is not much exaggeration in these lyrics.
If you are an Al fan, you have to listen and it is worth the buck or whatever, but if you are not really an Al fan or have never really listened to him, you can probably pass on this one. Have fun!
