5.0 out of 5 stars Anatole France, July 22, 2008
This is a handsome 1949 Heritage Club edition of France's tale of justice not merely subverted--the author is too subtle for that--but of injustice that is not recognized for what it is by the innocent. In its' own sharp way, this elegantly narrated story summarizes the best of France's sceptical writing, and why this author should be more closely embraced by the modern reader. The illustrations are a perfect match for the tale-urbane,unobtrusive and Gaullic.
