5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable In My Kitchen
It has wheels that recede as you step on it and a rubber bumper all-around. Just kick it around to where you need it and then step up one step or two to reach the glassware on the top shelf. Rugged, safe, accessible from every side. Sit on it too to sort the laundry, wipe up a mess, or change your shoes.

3.0 out of 5 stars A CHEAPER VERSION
I bought this one because it is stainless and would be nice to have in the kitchen area. I was surprised by the light weight of the item and how it flexed when stood on. It is not the heavy duty step stools that I have had before and at work. This is a CHEAP made in China version of the good ones that used to be made in the USA. It is not the heavy duty step stools that I have had before and at work. This is a CHEAP made in China version of the good ones that used to be made in the USA. 2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Quality, July 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Given the high cost of this item, I was surprised by the low level of quality.

Underneath the stool are 3 PLASTIC casters. Not only are the actual wheels plastic, as one might expect, but the entire caster is plastic. Also, there is spring-loaded portion of the caster that slides up and down when weight is applied to the stool, and this sliding portion of the caster is also plastic, sliding up and down through a very sharp metal hole. Plastic sliding against sharp metal doesn't bode well for product longevity.

I anticipate these plastic casters will fail from wear (or outright break) in a year or two, at best.

The stool also doesn't roll straight when pushed with your foot, as one might expect, but tends to roll in a circular pattern, which can be slightly annoying when moving the stool from one side of the kitchen to the other.

The edges of the 3 stainless steel "legs" at the top of the stool are also VERY sharp. The steel should have been bent over to make a "rounded" edge (as was done for the top standing platform edges). A child, and also an adult, could easily get a deep cut from the sharp metal edges on these 3 "legs."

The rubber bumper at the bottom of the stool is VERY thin, and will probably not last through too many "bumps" against the kitchen baseboard molding.

As for its function as a stool, I weigh about 185 pounds, the stool is rated at "300 pounds," and while it doesn't feel like it will collapse, it doesn't feel rock solid, either. Perhaps making the 3 stainless steel "legs" a thicker gauge steel would help.

The stool is made in China, and is priced as if made in the USA. My wish is not that the price be lowered, but rather, that the quality improve.

-----------

AUGUST 9, 2010 UPDATE:
After weeks of use, we are seeing black plastic shavings appear on the kitchen floor due to the black plastic casters "sliding up and down through a very sharp metal hole" as mentioned in the original review. The sharp metal is actually shaving away the plastic wheels. Poor design, poor construction, poor materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars great step stool, November 9, 2009

This step stool is perfect for my laundry area. I have stackable washer/dryer and controls were too high for me to read on dryer. Stool is easy to assemble (only two snap together pieces). Very sturdy and rolls easily with a slight toe tap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wife loves it, December 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my wife. When we moved into our new house we had the kitchen redone. There is alot of top shelf space. Wife loves it cause she can just kick it where she wants it step up and get stuff or put stuff away. Now that she has it she uses it all over the house, in fact I used it to put up window curtains, and I weigh almost 300 lbs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, safe and easy to use, January 21, 2012
This review is from: Cramer 1002-00 Kik Step Rolling Step Stool Premium Grade Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement)
It came FAST and was very easy to put together. The instructions state that once the top is attached to the base you cannot return it. If you are looking at them though, you probably won't want to. They are fun to kick around and I feel very secure getting big items like a bread machine out of our upper cabinets. The round platform feels much better than a rectangular one. I had a regular foot stool before and always had to hold on to the cabinets because I was afraid it (and I) would tip over. We recently baby proofed our kitchen and "up" was the theme! I store this stool in a corner because my daughter will pull up on it. She would pull up on a regular stool too though and the plus of this one is that it won't fall over on her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, January 21, 2012

This review is from: Cramer 1002-00 Kik Step Rolling Step Stool Premium Grade Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement)
My wife is short and she wanted a step to reach the upper kitchen cabinets. She likes what you find in the library, with the wheels. After some on-line searches, I find the kick step from Amazon, it was the best price from all other stores and I ordered the stainless steel one (to match out new remodeled kitchen). Shipping was great; it arrived just before the holidays (it was a Christmas gift)even though the estimated shipping date was after the holidays. Assembly was easy, upper step snaps into the base. Quality was nice. The wheels are spring loaded plastic casters however this is good, you don't want metal wheels on a nice tile kitchen floor. The wheels only take the weight of the step so durability should not be a problem. Over all it's great and my wife loves it, kick it to position and step. Only slight down side is the rubber/plastic bumper position do not seem to line up well with our cabinets, so the lower stainless steel body hits the lower edge of the cabinets before the bumpers. I will have to look into this and see if I can add some other protective bumper strip. Personally I think it's a little pricey for a stamped steel step, but it's functional, durable and the wife is happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great in my Kitchen, December 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cramer 1002-00 Kik Step Rolling Step Stool Premium Grade Stainless Steel (Tools & Home Improvement)
I recently renovated my kitchen and now have the taller cabinets. I am 5'5 so it was tough to reach the top shelves. I saw this stool and it brought me back to my elementary school days. This version, with the stainless steel, is a more grown up version.

It slides on it's wheels easily, and locks down immediately when I step on it. It feels solid under me when I am stepping on it. It makes using the higher shelves easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Design, November 4, 2011

This is a really useful accessory to our home. We use ours in the kitchen to match our stainless steel appliances and this particular model matched beautifully. We paid a little more for this Premium Grade Steel because it has a wonderful high quality appearance. We have another kik Step in-house, used in our walk-in closet. The only reason it didn't get five stars is the rubber surround on the base feels a little too loose but, for now, it is staying firmly in place and it has been in use since we purchased it a few weeks ago.

One of the most versatile step stool designs available. What is really great about this item is that it can substitute as a low profile setting stool.
