A hungry, homeless donkey--accidentally left behind by a traveling circus--is rescued from Mr. Grape's wrath by Mr. Whiskers and Maggie. While the mayor tries to contact the circus about the animal, Maggie and her grandmother devise a scheme to raise the money needed to feed it at the holiday fete. At the close of a glorious day, the money has been raised; Mr. Whiskers and Maggie are the owners of the donkey; and grouchy Mr. Grape, once again, is the loser of the verbal battle with his neighbors. The recipe for cranberry punch, served at the picnic, is included. Love this book. Just like all the other books in the series, there's always an issue that gets worked out. The group of friends work together to do the right thing. My son is 5 1/2 and loves all these books!
