We got this for my soon to be three year old. To say that he loves it is an understatement. It is intended for two players but we have played with more. Even my almost four year old can play it with her almost three year old brother by themselves.
The games pieces are very sturdy. The dogs kennels each have a pattern, a shape, and a color and this is what you are trying to match. There are cards that you turn over and then you try to find the match on your card (3 x 3 squares). if you have the match you put one of the little dog tokens on your card and they are made to fit in to the hole so that they don't slide off or can be accidentally knocked off. If you get three in a row (this is the only part I have to teach him) you get your puppy and put him in the kennel at the top and shout "Woof woof". This has been a great first game. When you turn the card over and say have you got...a heart? He shouts it "I do, I do". I have already decided to purchase this as a birthday present for two cousins and a friend.

We've had our Puppy Pals Bingo for a couple of years now and it remains a favorite in our house. Gameplay length is perfect for the attention span of preschoolers and early grade kids.
Educational value is in recognition of shapes, colors and patterns. The cards are double-sided so there's plenty of variation. My kids love to play "Puppy Bingo." The only drawback to the game is that like other Cranium preschool games we own, it goes not store well. The box would not stay closed and several of the bingo chips have gotten lost along the way (probably some cards as well). If you buy the game, I recommend getting a small, flat plastic container to store the cards, chips (in a baggie), cards and puppies in. It will save a lot of hassle and keep your enjoyment high. This is one my six year old daughter picks to give her friends as a gift. I think that speaks to how much she enjoys it.

I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old son after a friend with an older child recommended it. I thought we'd "grow into it", but he loves it already! He now can recognize patterns like polka-dots and checks, and he wants to play this game many times every day. He's not one to sit still for long, so it's a pretty big deal that he wants to sit and play this with me all the time. I highly recommend it as a first game!
