4.0 out of 5 stars Come one, come all!
Unlike some people, I don't review DVDs until I have actually watched them. This collection includes all 10 first seasons episodes of Crank Yankers, now with the curse words unbleeped. There are still a few bleeps, though; mostly the names of businesses. Like when Terrence calls Spago to make a reservation for Bill Cosby, "Spago" is bleeped. Oddly, though, on the CD...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best it could have been for a DVD release
Crank Yankers is a great muppet looking type of show for the.... ummm.... more mature audience..... umm, no... lets just say it's not a kids show. A group of actors make (100% real) prank phone calls to unsuspecting suvillians and then the recorded conversation is then presented visualy with the puppets that reside in Yankerville.

All 10 episodes from season...

Oddly, though, on the CD version of that call, "Spago" was unbleeped. Watching the early episodes of Crank Yankers, it is interesting to observe some of the ways the show has "evolved" since then. Some of the puppets didn't have quite the same look as they do now. The most notable difference is in Cammie, who was originally a blonde. Also, the show was more experimental during the first season. They tried things like having musical performances and "wise sayings" from Confucius. These bits were later dropped to concentrate entirely on the crank phone calls. The bonus materials on the DVD include a documentary about the making of the show, which is interesting, at least the first time you watch it. There are also two unaired calls, which are not as funny as the calls that actually did air. If you like this show, this DVD set is well produced and worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great laugh!, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Crank Yankers Uncensored - Season One (DVD)
I love watching this show... it is entirely too comical. I am a sucker for a good laugh and this show definitely feeds that appetite. I can't wait to collect all of the seasons, especially being that the show is cancelled. I'd have to say this is right up there with my other favorite animated comedies... South Park and King of the Hill.

After seeing Crank Yankers on Comedy Central my husband and I were excited that it was finally coming out on DVD. Even though we had seen all of them already it was still just as funny the second time around. There's just something funny seeing puppets acting out prank phone calls. If you have a sense of humor you will be laughing for hours:)

For those who wonder how a dvd set that has not come out can be given 5 stars, well I have two words for you--Special Ed. That character alone is worth the bucks it will take to have this set of dvd. Plus, the cast of guest voices features some really funny folks. If you love great comedy, then BUY THIS DVD SET!!! Dum-dum-dum-dum Yay!!!!

Crank Yankers is my favorite TV show on the air. My favorite characters are Cammie (sexy + confident + ignorant = hilarious), Hadassah, and Bobby Fletcher (he can still be funny without the burping). I try to record the shows everytime they come on. But I missed some of the first ones, so having this DVD collection is wonderful. I do think the latter seasons are better though because they don't have all the silly interludes or songs in between each call, which leaves room for more calls!

Down in Yankerville, it's a nice city where anything can happen and it's populated by puppet people who make crank calls to strangers yet with hilarious results. This show is a hilarious and shocking adult puppet show that aired on Comedy Central in 2002 and is now on MTV2, the show is created by Jimmy Kimmel, Daniel Kellison and Adam Carolla with some guest stars like Wanda Sykes, Dave Chappell, Sarah Silverman, David Alan Grier, Tracey Morgan, Billy West, Superdave Osbourne, Jack Black, Ween, and Dennis Leary doing actual prank phone calls to actual people as they are recorded and portrayed by puppets like the Sesame Street kind.

Here on this season features skits like Wanda who complaints about a human log in the backseat of her car, some unfriendly UPS fellows especially Willy, lovable grandpa-esque old man Elmer, retarded fellow Ed, flamboyant millionaire Niles, and other hilarious goodies. It may not be for everyone but it's a damn good comedy puppet show for adults.

This DVD has the show uncensored with puppet nudity and vulger language which were censored with a couple of extras like two unaired calls and a documentary behind this show.

All 10 episodes from season 1 are presented on 2 discs with 2 un-aired sketches and a documentry with some behind the scenes footage and shows you who the actors are playing the crank calling roles.

I do like the Crank Yankers, but season 1 was not the best, however it does have some pretty darn funny moments. But this DVD release could have been so much more. A pet peeve I have about the presentation tho is that it is 2 discs, and I am left wondering, why? On disc 1 there is 5 episodes that go for about an hour and 30 minintes. and about 5 short clips of other Comedy Chanel preveiws. Then on disc 2 there is the next 5 shows at the same length and 2 lousy sketches that wernt aired for good reason that are about 4 minutes each, and the documentry that goes for about 20 minutes. And all the preveiws combined could last more then 10 to 15 maybe 20 minutes. All of those combined are under 4 hours, a DVD will hold 4 hours of good standard quality. So why is it on 2 discs??? Also I hate the 2 seperate slim cases it comes in, inside of a cardboard box.

There isnt enough bonus footage included ont hese. The first sketch was not funny, the second one wasnt either, the documentry is ok, but we need much, much more to make this DVD super. At least the sketches are unsensoured, so there is no bleeping out words. It would have been real nice to have an option to not only just veiw the episodes individualy or all together, but have an option to view just the same charactor. I'd like to be able to just pick my favorite charactor (Special Ed) and just veiw his pranks continusly. I can't beleive there was only about 2 or 3 special ED pranks in season 1. Lets hope they have more to offer on season 2.

Anyone who has not laughed at this show clearly has no sense of humor whatsoever. My favorite character is (burp) Bobby Fletcher. Special Ed's pretty funny, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Won't you join the Crank Yankers tonight?, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Crank Yankers Uncensored - Season One (DVD)
Back in the day "Crank Yankers" was one of my favorite shows. It used to come on right after SP. It is so funny and clever. My favorite character was none other than Hadassah Guberman (Sarah Silverman.) Hadassah always had the most brilliant things to say (don't be a hog, spare the log.) It's a shame this isn't on TV anymore. It came back last year on MTV2 but didn't last too long. Every once in a while some older eps are added to Comedy Central's Comcast on-demand.
