Surprisingly AMAZING,

This review is from: Crash of 47 (Audio CD)
I had always been a fan of the music that Wind-Up has been putting out there and bands that they have signed. I was going through their list of bands and came across Atomship. At first, I was skeptical with the name and title, and could have easily written them off as a weird band that liked to talk about aliens.
I was in for a great surprise. From the beginning, these guys blew me away. All skeptism was gone. Aside from the fact that they have very creative songs, they're also very talented. It's rare when you listen to a band's lead singer and can't associate his voice with anyone else. That uniqueness is a rare quality in this day in age. Being a percussionist, I loved that much more when listening to them. Their drummer is phenomenal. I would put him up there with Danny Carrey of Tool in complexity and talent. All the elements of this band just mesh very well with one another. I had this CD in my player for a month before I made myself take it out and listen to the other 20 CDs I had lined up to listen to at the time. This is definitely a quality CD. If you're in for something unique and a mind blowing experience, pick em up and have a listen.

Awesome dynamic band,

These guys are a God send to a rock genre stagnating under the weight of pop punk, Tool and Nirvana wannabes, and just otherwise useless bands. Taking influences like Tool, Rush, Yes, Dream Theatre and countless other metal and prog rock bands, have woven the best elements of the sound from these groups into something wholly original.
I found Atomship by accident after picking up the Punisher Soundtrack and hearing the acoustic piece called "Time For People." I decided to pick up their album after finding out when it was released. I bought it at Wal Mart of all places. I was not fully prepared for what I was about to hear. Crash of 47 just blew me away. Every song on the CD was nearly flawless awesome unrelenting rock that demands full attention from first to last. "Pencil Fight" is the first single and probably my favorite song off the album. "Time For People", "Mothra", "Withered" and "Aliens" are all stand out songs as well. The whole album is incredible but those songs are my personal favorites. Joey Culver has an incredible voice which compliments these songs perfectly. At times he is sinister and at others he's almost soulful, he definitely is a singer to be reckoned with. The drummer is a sick technical mastermind and their guitarist has talent to spare.

Best new band!!!,

This is one of the best new bands to come along in a great while. I don't know who is in charge of their P. R., but they need someone else. Everyone I talk to, says they have never heard of these guys. Everytime I go into a music store that sells this cd, I pick up a copy to give to a friend. I saw them live at The Howling Wolf in New Orleans. This band is a must see and this cd is a must hear.

Wow...just WOW....,
By
This review is from: Crash of 47 (Audio CD)
Wow. Before I go into this, I must state the obvious: This is one amazing album. It's unlike anything rock has made in the past years, and is well deserving of recognition. It's purely amazing. A rock style that mixes progressive rock elements, a hard, agressive alternative metal flavor, and unique vocal stylings all combined with brilliant songwriting and outstanding musicianship...is well worth listening to. Here's a track by track review:
1. Day of Daze. Heavy, yet melodic opener. The lyrics are quite interesting. The chorus delivers a heavy, catchy vibe that will stick in your head and won't leave for a while (which is good). I really like how the verses give a light, glittering feel to the overall sound. 9/10 2. Mothra. Wow. This is well deserving of the "Best Track" award for this album. This truly prooves Atomship can play, but creating a progressive track that changes tempos like socks and references Godzilla. How can you go wrong with that? Quite an epic song, and they go crazy at the end (which is really sweet). The double-bass at the end is a great touch. 10/10 3. Dragonfly. One of my favorites. The chorus gets me, with lyrics I wish I could've concieved. Joey's vocals on this one soar, and you'll find yourself playing this one over and over. This one starts a little soft, but builds to a dramatic climax. 10/10 4. Pencil Fight. The first single off the album is well deserving of the honor. The piano-like intro is especially cool. This song builds very well, coming to an epic climax. Not the best song, but very well written one. 8/10 5. Withered. The second single is a slow acoustic song that is just breathtaking. Beautiful. The lyrics convey such deep emotion, and Joey's voice is so soothing. Brilliant. 9/10 6. Agent Orange. Withered dives straight into Agent Orange, which is a complicated track that you have to hear to understand truly. The end sure is swell, where they pump out some heavy riffs. 8/10 7. Time For People. The first Atomship song I heard, and it still blows me away. The pure, slow emotion exhibited by this one leaves me breathless. Slow and heavy, emotional and intelligent. The acoustic intro that leads into the heavy riffs definately deserve props. Very nice. 8/10 8. Aliens. This one really has a spacey feel to it. Obviously though, considering it's about aliens. Nice and heavy for a mid-album crunch. Kind of drags along, and is sort of anti-climactic. Not the best song. 7/10 9. Whitfield. The chorus of this song is one of the best parts on the entire album. Whitfield opens with some verses that drive at a medium-fast pace, but the chorus slows it down to a halt and just blows away the listener with heartfelt lyrics and gut-wrenching vocals. Amazing audio experiance. 9/10 10. Friends. A nice heavy one for the near end of the album. Another spacey feel is instilled into this one, and it creates a strong consistency through the song. The lyrics are really sad: I'm guessing they're about some of his friends who drowned when he was a child. The emotion is shown very well. 8/10 11. Plastic People. Great closer! The music is eerie and haunting, and the vocals simply add more to it. It builds up for a climactic end, then softly fades away. 8/10 Amazing album. So buy it now and support these amazing artists.

Atomship Works,
By
This review is from: Crash of 47 (Audio CD)
Atomship is a band that has carved a niche for itself despite the fact that this is only their first album. Normally bands take at least 2 albums to find their sound, but Atomship seems to have done that already. Their music is really spacious, but at the same time retains its heavier elements very well.Atomship works very well for a band of their genre. Their lead singer, Joey Culver, has a very unique voice and really compliments the music well. Lyrically, it seems as if he's often stuck in another world, but I also get the impression that he has a point. His main strength beyond complimenting the band is his ability to sell some of the lyrics that he has written ("I am the Alien" for ex.). The guitar work is also quite good- at times intricate, but always in place. And the bass does a wonderful job of supporting it and countering it (as in the verses of "Pencil Flight"). The only complaint I have musically would be the drumming. Don't get me wrong, the drumming is amazing. My issue is that at times it seems too amazing and may very well detract from the rest of the song. When Kent backs off a bit, however he is ingenious, leading the band trough intricate time signatures (ex. Mothra is 5/8 at times), and time changes (as in Whitfield). Overall, Atomship's debut is definately solid and definately intriguing. It has its moments where things seem shaky, but even so, Atomship is a group that has an immense amount of technical ability, and much promise. Despite those few moments, The Crash of '47 holds together well. If there's one word to describe the disc, it's infectious. I would highly recommend listening to the 5 tracks selected at www.atomship.com... Pay special attention to Day of Daze, Whitfield, and Withered they are truly excellent tracks.

The Band We Have All Been Waiting For!,

Atomship is by far the most creative, talented and energetic band I have seen come out of the 21st century. With a perfectly balanced serving of in your face melody and style, they more than deliver the goods. With intense tracks such as "Dragonfly" and "Withered" you will be glad you spent the money.
I am a collecter of all kinds of music, ranging from classical to Death Metal and this is a rare find for the massive music man. I would urge all of you to buy this album, you will not regret it!

Very promising,
This review is from: Crash of 47 (Audio CD)
I have been a bit wary of these post-grunge/Nu-Metal-style bands in the past. After being recommended a load of homogenized plastic Rock albums after purchasing Ultraspank's "Progress" CD (a lost jewel in my humble opinion)I discovered this little gem. It's littered with fine tunes and they've certainly put a new spin on a genre that is over saturated right now and carved out their own unique sound. Apologies, but I am going to have to name drop a little...they reminded me of Tool crossed with Days of the New and a touch of I Mother Earth. "Pencil Fight" certainly presses all the right buttons for a lead single; "Withered" is technically the radio friendly unit shifter, but boy, it's one fantastic little ditty. Elsewhere, "Mothra", "Friends" and "Agent Orange" are all personal favourite...
Watch this space...this could hopefully be the start of something special.

Atomship rocks my socks...hehehe,
This review is from: Crash of 47 (Audio CD)
When i was vacationing in South Carolina my brothers and i went to see a Flaw concert and Atomship opened for them. We got to the House of Blues early so we could get a good spot and as we're sitting there we hear some guy yell "Are you ready to ROCK?!?!" I had never heard of Atomship before so i had no clue who this crazed lunatic was but i was soon to find out this was their frontman. Joey was his name and he filled us in on his band and then he gave us a few nifty Atomship stickers. Then later when they came on stage i was blown away. They had such an awesome stage presence and i instantly loved their music. After the concert we sprinted to the merch table to buy their album and lemme tell you, it is so wicked! I really think that you should buy it!! Buy it now!!

I was the first person to buy the album when available to the public at THE BACK ROOM show in Austin,TX. The band themselves had only recieved the CD's one hour before they were scheduled on stage. I was able to hang out with Joey,Chad,Nate and the newest addition to the band Roy Williams(the bassist)on the tour bus and back stage..Not only an AWESOME live performance but an incredible record. And the boys are really cool and down to earth. They love their fans and hang out in the crowd after their set to talk with the fans take pics and give autographs..I have not owned an album that I enjoyed so much from begining to end since I purchased Pearl Jam's TEN... Not that i am comparing them by sound only in how awesome all the songs were.. ALL the songs rock it out and they have nothing but great things to follow them on their road to success and i am confident that they are well on their way to super-stardom. If you want to hear some fresh-hard-brand spanking new sounds buy Atomship- Crash of '47 you will not be dissappointed you will be mystified! Joey with his Maynard-esque vocals Chad with his superman talent on those drums. Nate is out of this world with his awesome guitar riffs and Roy...well Roy can tear that bass up though he joined them after the album was released he brings an awesome groovy edge to their LIVE performances. Check them out live buy the album our request "pencil fight" on yout local radio stationand check out the website WWW.Atomship.com for all new ways to view the video become an E-teamer and learn all about the band and find lyrics and live photos or submit your own photos of the band! THEY ROCK IT OUT..But dont take my word for it.. listen for yourself at atomship.com

Very Well Done Debut...But Is it Promising???,
By
This review is from: Crash of 47 (Audio CD)
Ok...Let me start off by correcting some of these reviews. The Disturbed and Flaw comments are False. The BAND as a whole sounds nothing like either of the two.The only thing that is similar to Flaw and Disturbed is the Tone of the singers (JOEY CULVER) Voice.Now.........AS Far As The TOOL Referances go.....Anyone who is a Tool fan should already know that there is no way TOOL's sound can be copied.Hence this album does not sound like a TOOL cd Either.However......This band is Very Creative which is how I can understand the TOOL Rip-off Comments............................................................................................................................NOW....I Bought this cd only hearing 1 of the songs on the radio "Withered".I had very Low Expectations for this cd because I seen they were on Wind-Up Records and I know that they usually Sign Bands that are just Average. So I was pretty Much Expecting 11 Versions of Withered.Needless to say I was DEAD-WRONG.This band is a rarity...Everyone in the band is Full of Talent...I was really impressed with the Drummer (Chad Kent). My fav. tracks on the album are "Mothra","Pencil Fight","Aliens",& Plastic People".There are only 2 Sopngs that didnt do Much for me "Agent Orange"(The Vocal Melody sounded Off Key to me,But the last few Min.of the song are good.)and "Time For People".Other than Those 2 I thought this album was excellant.I Am looking forward to the next release to get here sometime this year.I think with this debut they are showing promise and I think that this band will be one to watch in the coming years.
