I first saw this movie on a saturday sci fi show. It was the edited version. The plot and acting arent really bad for a low budget film as this. What I din't really get was the role of the big robot in the film. It really didn't have much relevence to the plot and didn't generate enough action to warrant its presence. The movie could have done fine without it.

Resistance fighters confront the "Orwellian" presence of the world-dominating UNICOM Corporation in this futuristic story of sci-fi action and thrills.
Rebels Tyson (Paul Ganus) and Arren (Megan Ward) suspect their remote TV station has been infiltrated by a Synthoid, a UNICOM robot that looks and acts human, yet is programmed to kill. They discover the deadly Synthoid-and discover, too, that terminating the relentless humanoid is virtually impossible. Arren, however, has an ace in the hole; a dormant 80-foot robot she's reprogrammed and brought back to life for a desperate showdown of machine vs. machine. But even after one Synthoid is destroyed, there may be others....

The future is controlled by Unicom, a corporate bureaucracy that has stepped in for the government after the economic crash. When one of the last remaining free enterprise television stations comes under attack by a synthetic Unicom android, it is up to a rogue hero and a resourceful young girl to take control of a giant 80-foot mech in order to stop the robotic threat. CRASH AND BURN hijacks plot elements from films like ALIEN, THE THING, and BLADE RUNNER in a loose followup to Stuart Gordon's ROBOT JOX. Although the opening scenes promise big robot action, Charles Band spends far more time building a sneaking suspicion and paranoia using the same techniques as Ridley Scott or John Carpenter in the films above. This is only made possible thanks to a series of strong performances by the relatively unknown cast and genre favorite Bill Moseley. The final climactic battle also features some impressive make-up work inspired by THE TERMINATOR and more excellent stop-motion animation by Full Moon favorite David Allen. Science Fiction fans of the 80's will appreciate this ambitious but derivative low-budget feature.
