Book Description

January 27, 1999

The cries are growing louder and more frequent. The millennium bug could spell misery for the world's population. In the early days of computing, digits representing the dates in most software programs were shortened from four numerals to two in order to save valuable memory space. Consequently, computers serving all levels of government and business will be spewing out erroneous data when the clock rolls forward on January 1, 2000 unless they are repaired in time. Time is growing short and many remedial projects are alarmingly behind schedule. The result of this massive digital nightmare could mean a shutdown in the securities and banking industry, the entire distribution system for goods worldwide, public utilities, telecommunications, civil defense, all levels of government and more. Y2K A BONANZA?

Though the Y2K problem should not be taken lightly, there will be enormous profit opportunities for those able to maintain their wits and execute well-thought-out plans. Whether Y2K turns out to be a disaster or a mere inconvenience, we will see never-before opportunities in certain business start-ups, precious metals, select sectors of the stock market, real estate and high-paying employment opportunities. Charles Steed explains the Y2K problem and its effects on government, banking and securities, national distribution, communications and virtually every other sector important to our lives. Steed sees the crisis as a serious one and provides valuable information on how to prepare for Y2K both physically and financially. The book profiles more than 70 publicly traded companies whose stocks are positioned to take off once the public-at-large understands the scope of the problem - and public awareness is growing. Steed says Some of these firms are poised for explosive growth much like the Internet stocks of 1998.

During every crisis there are always individuals who fare better than others, but that doesn't happen by accident. Turning Y2K to your advantage takes an acute understanding of the situation, knowing who stands to gain from it and why, and a specific set of plans designed to exploit already existing factors. Crash Course 2000 provides this information in an easy-to-read, no-nonsense format.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

In my early research of the Y2K problem I realized that virtually no one was talking about the enormous opportunities that will come about as a result of this phenomenon. There is overwhelming evidence that society faces some dramatic challenges. Whether or not the world actually experiences these challenges, many markets will be poised for significant gains on the public's anticipation alone. In the book, I identify more than 70 publicly traded companies that are positioned to profit from Y2K remedial work as well as investments that should logically run up on much of the crowd psychology surrounding the situation. I'm especially pleased with the chapter on business and employment opportunities materializing as a result of Y2K.

More About the Author

After my discharge from the Navy as medic in 1982 I continued on in healthcare as a registered nurse since I'd already completed more than half the requirements in the service. I worked as an RN for nearly 15 years.

At that point I made a career change and began to flip residential properties in Washington state. In the course of a little more than three years I'd completed more than 60 transactions. I felt compelled to share some of what I'd learned as a real estate investor so in 1996 I published my first book titled, The Streetsmart Homebuyer - Investor Secrets ANYONE Can Use To Buy A Home.

Three other physical books followed. Toward the end of the 1990s I became an Amazon affiliate so I could make a little extra selling my own books. It was nice selling a book on Amazon because I got paid for the actual book and got a commission as well.

My favorite writing topics are personal development and business. I also have a couple of fiction pieces in the works incorporating both metaphysics and business, a nice blend.

Since writing is in my blood and couldn't imagine not doing it every day, and since people, some people at least, seem to enjoy it, I'm making every effort to continue. Thanks for stopping by...

Okay: Y2K didn't happen. Got that? There was no "Y2K Crisis." Civilization as we know it did not come to an end at one second past midnight on the morning of January 1, 2000. So if you got into an argument with someone who said it wouldn't happen, and maybe suggested that his doubts were due to a limited mental capacity, or that he was simply too lazy to consult the latest "information" on the subject, then perhaps you owe that person an apology, because nothing that was predicted to accompany the arrival of the year 2000 due to the absence of two decimal places in the year fields of programs and operating systems EVER happened! NOTHING! I know because I was there, along with about 6 billion other people. And many of us monitored the progression of the new millennium as it began at the International Date Line and moved west through Asia, Australia, Europe, to where I was then living in the Chicago area, and beyond. Our public utilities continued to function, our computers continued to work, and our nuclear missiles remained in their silos. People on life-support systems in hospitals didn't turn up dead, refrigeration systems didn't fail, and our water supplies remained safe. In short: nothing happened. NOTHING! Even though virtually every important industry in our global economy admitted that the "Y2K Problem" was still years away from being completely solved, and that the "Y2K Bug" would still permeate our systems for quite some time, NOTHING HAPPENED. The supposed "bug" that was going to be responsible for the "problem" that would inevitably lead to a "crisis" that would send us back to the Dark Ages while perhaps triggering Armageddon NEVER happened! Was there ANY result from this Y2K fiasco? No. Instead, the ultimate mega-event of all recorded history became known for primarily one thing: that nothing happened. We waited for something to happen. We looked for something to happen. January 1 went by. January 2 went by. January itself went by, and through February and March of 2000 we still thought something might happen, but nothing did. Nothing, that is, except that for a certain cadre of unscrupulous authors, such as the one who wrote this book, the party was over, and there was no more money to be made off uninformed and/or gullible readers from THIS particular scare scenario. For them, it was time to cash-out. Live to write another day. Take the money and run. I hope they invested it all in Enron.
