It's not the books you own, it's the books you read........,

This review is from: Crash Course In Beating Texas Hold'em (Paperback)
I'm guilty of owning all the best books and of reading the ones that are the most user friendly. This book by Avery Cardoza doesn't have anything that isn't to be found in the other good hold'em books, but for the beginner, all the important, basic information is here in a well-organized, entertaining package that covers the basics of limit/no-limit, cash and tournament hold'em. After reading this book, you will be able to join in and continue to learn without being overwhelmed with more than you needed to get started and it is not in any way dumb-downed or inaccurate despite it being a "crash course."

Finally a book I can understqand,
This review is from: Crash Course In Beating Texas Hold'em (Paperback)
I have read hold em books for 2 years. I have had to stick with 7 stud as my hold em results in live play have been awful.
Yea, this book covers basic tenets that all these books cover (and puts a few fresh perspectives that none of the others do). What is different about Cardoza is that he communicates it in a way that finally makes sense and is understandable. It leaves the reader with no doubt as to what these basic concepts are all about. Now I understand position, pot and implied odds, how to approach a low action conservative table and how to approach a high action crowd where most everyone stays in and many other of the topics covered in other books but just simply not explained clearly and simply. Thank you very much Mr. Cardoza. U Da Man !!!

Avery Cardoza is a great poker writer. He's an even better publisher of poker books. This book is a uniquely helpful addition to his already prolific list of publications.
That being said, very simply, I gave this book only 3 stars simply because the majority of the information, ideas, concepts and strategies in it can be found, free of charge, on any poker website or forum. The only real benefit to purchasing this particular book is that you can find it all located in a single source. This book does not expound, experiment or try to develop any already existing poker theories or concepts. To its credit, it doesn't claim to. If you are a complete novice to the game of texas hold em, you may find this book useful. Otherwise skip it, or purchase it for someone who is a complete novice as a gift. |
