Book Description

Parrish Plessis Novels October 2, 2007
After inheriting a less-than-glorious empire within the Tert, Parrish Plessis-coup leader, bodyguard, and overall dangerous vixen-has her hands full, and her head even fuller. She's still under a blood debt to the Cabal Coomera. She's trying to take care of the growing population of stray social castoffs who have come to her for protection. And the nasty high-tech parasite her treacherous ex-lover hit her with is about to turn her into something much less than human...

I really liked this cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic series. There is some excellent world building along the lines of extrapolating current trends in communication and tech, human nature and how media and money is gaining more and more political and cultural clout. I can see this future Australia/world coming into being. That's something scary/cool and it made the story more enjoyable for me. Plus, we have the protagonist, Parish Plessis, who is a great kick-butt character who cares about the suffering of the people around her in the slums of the Tert.

This is apparently the final volume in the Parish Plessis series, going to be stopped at a trilogy. I liked it well enough except for the actual ending, which implies very strongly a certain choice, but doesn't show it. I prefer to know, not presume. So the book left me with a foul taste in my mouth.

If you like cyberpunk or post-apocalyptic style reads, you might enjoy this series a whole lot. And it's a bit more accessible emotionally than William Gibson.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, December 22, 2007

I was very disappointed with this final piece of the trilogy. This is a series that had good potential, but instead of ending with a bang ends with a whiff. If you have read the other two, you probably have to read this too, but I wouldn't start reading the series over.
