Another solid release from Mesh, April 1, 2006
This review is from: Crash (Audio CD)
This is the uptempo lead single from _We Collide_, the long-anticipated -- by many fans of dark synthpop, at least -- new album from the U.K. trio Mesh. It doesn't disappoint, stacking up well against "Leave You Nothing" and "Friends Like These," the two excellent singles from the previous album. Among Mesh's singles, it probably most resembles "Trust You" in its aggressive-but-catchy approach, but it's a significant upgrade. The Mesh remix is a faithful extension of the original, but the remix by Alien Six takes the prize: it brings in a few extra ideas and is my favorite version of the song.
And just as each of the previous two singles featured an album-quality B-side, this one gives us "Soul," a midtempo track with a guitar-drenched, major-to-minor, singalong chorus. While the second B-side, "Into This World," is a waltz-time ballad that's merely average by Mesh standards, this is a highly-recommended release for fans of Mesh (and of Depeche Mode, their best-known influence).

Corporate synthpop?, April 23, 2007
This review is from: Crash (Audio CD)
Oh man!!...has corporate found it's way into the realm of synthpop? This just sounds too much like it was really written for Britney Spears.
Okay, so that may or may not be true...actually, this is more in the vein of Imperative Reaction...hard-hitting futerpop/ebm. Crash is the strongest track on the single and, minus vocals, is all synth...other tracks incorporate guitars (there's that word, "corporate").
Eh..I might buy the full-length album. But so far Mesh hasn't left a memorable impression.
As an update, I really do enjoy the "Alien Six Kerosene Remix" mix of Crash, and is worth buying the single for it alone...one of my favorite songs these days. Gives me a little hope for this band's future. :-)
