Nitro Kart like a blast of Nitrous - Big Smile!,
By
This review is from: Crash Nitro Kart (Video Game)
CRASH NITRO KART is basically a racing game. But it's a well-executed, good graphics, and a psycho amount of weapons and dangers kind of racing game! The gist is you chose to either play as one of Crash's team or one of the EVIL team members. Each character has varying levels of speed or turning ability, and this makes it all the more difficult! Add to that the varying levels of tracks, and multiple ways you can play (adventure, single race, time trial, etc!). People will compare it to Mario Kart, but it's really comparable to any number of racing games from Simpson's Road Rage to Cartoon Network's Speedway. What makes this game tick are the surprises you get as you advance up the game levels. Hidden drivers crop up, new cheats, etc! By the end of it all you can even unlock characters like SPYRO who aren't even in CRASH games usually. This is a lot of fun, and works really well on the GBA. Cute enough for kids, but also challenging enough for adults. I found it actually very challenging to ramp up my driving skills. This was not easy to just pick up and instantly be a pro!

This review is from: Crash Nitro Kart (Video Game)
Crash's kart hijinks started years ago on the Playstation as Crash Team Racing. As we all know, Naughty Dog handled that game and it was one of the serious contenders that went up against Mario Kart. Vivendi Universal wanted to return to that success by letting Vicarious Visions(Creators of Crash's two GBA adventures) create Crash Nitro Kart for the Gameboy Advance as well as for the present console systems. For the most part, Crash Nitro Kart is an enjoyable racer that shows attention to car handling, challenge, track design, and a ton of racing modes. The coolest things about the game, to me anyways, is the Boost element(In a powerslide, the racer quickly builds up a boost meter that must be activated at a specific time, and a successful powerslide can give skilled players as many as three linked boosts; This is one thing that definitely sets it apart from Mario Kart), the time trial where players can rank their times at the Vicarious Visions website and the fact there are alot of unlockables(like being able to race as Spyro, which is my favorite). The game features 11 racers, arcade & adventure modes, link cable support for up to 4 players, 3 games saves, and connectivity to the Gamecube version. The story to the game tells that Crash and the gang land on a remote planet where they've been kidnapped by the "evil" Emperor Velo, forced to race against the alien posse as well as Neo Cortex and his crew of cronies, while Crash is racing to save the world...Neo has other plans.
The version I played has only froze up on me once, so far, and as far as slowdown is concerned--I've seen very little in the game. So, there's very little for me to gripe about. Vicarious Visions utilizes a mode-7 design to the game to give it more of a 3-D feel, the control is dead-on in the game, and the graphics look brilliant. It might not have as much polish to it as Mario Kart Super Circuit does as it looks, at least to me, like the older Super Mario Kart on the SNES. At any rate, though, it's the gameplay that counts to me and this game has got alot. It's an excellent kart racer that builds upon ideas established in both Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing as well as other GBA kart racers. To me, this game rates second to the two aforementioned racers and is definitely one every GBA owner should have in their collection of games on the go. On a sidenote, if you own one of the Crash Nitro Kart games that freezes, or slows down during play....may i suggest that you get the Crash Superpack(which has Crash Nitro Kart & Crash Bandicoot: N-tranced on it). I've seen even less of both those problems on that game cartridge when testing it alongside my copy of CNK. Hopefully, Vivendi Universal has corrected the problem as best it can with the superpack version.

I have been playing Crash games on my playstation for years, and having recently acquiring a Game Boy Advance SP, I have gotten this game(Ihave previously played Nitro Kart on an X box and loved it) so I figured it wont be bad on a Game Boy.
This game rocks! Mine didnt freeze and I had no problems. The racing is really exciting, but it took me a few practice courses to acutally win- there are diff mondes, but the one i like best is where you race to be 1st. You catch boxes with surprises, you can fire missles, throw ice cubes that freeze others, use clock to slow others, leave tnt crates, and other nasty traps, while you race through different worlds When I start playing it, I get glued to it, and I dont want to do anything else. I stay up all night and want to leave work early just to play. Crash and his crazy team are racing, and you just KNOW it will be super. Love this game, im making sure I have the version of all other consoles, so I can play it whenever and anywhere I want. 2115|RVG3W2MPDX9Q7;2115|R38C0AECYW6TGN;2115|RZL5EGR2P69ZU;
