Biography

Billy “Crash” Craddock was born the youngest of 13 children in Greensboro, NC. A good portion of his childhood was spent surrounded by music and love of his family. His father, typical of musicians of his day and time, played harmonica, spoons, washboard and buck danced. His mother and older brothers and sisters regularly sang old gospel standards and folk tunes, harmonizing beautifully amongst… Read more in Amazon's Billy 'Crash' Craddock Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Best at a ballad, November 24, 2001

I bought this CD for a few songs that he sings. He really has a way with a ballad. The best on this CD are Easy as Pie, Broken Down In Tiny Pieces, A Tear Fell and The First Time. Man can he sing those songs well. I also like Rub It In and Sweet Magnolia Blossom which are upbeat. I have some vinyl records of his and some tapes. Not many CD's available by Crash. But if you want to get in a slow dancin mood play those ballads.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff., February 14, 2004
This review is from: Crash's Smashes: Hits of (Audio CD)
A superior collection of one of the more amiable lesser lights of the early '70s country scene... Craddock was an ex-rockabilly singer who retired from show biz for most of the 1960s, then came to Nashville in the early '70s and slowly ramped up to a pretty successful career. He liberally dipped into the past for many of his initial hits, covering old pop and R&B tunes, along with the occasional new tune designed to raise an eyebrow or two. This disc has a lot of his best material, including the sleazy #1 novelty hit (and big Pop crossover), "Rub It In," and similarly salacious numbers like the sequel, "You Rubbed It In All Wrong" and the surprisingly raunchy " 'Till The Water Stops Runnin'." Fun stuff... no big philosophical points or life-changing revelations, but a few fun tunes to hum along to. It belongs to an earlier era when outright dopiness in country music was much more welcome and commonplace... a time that in many ways is sorely missed in the stuffy, all-business atmosphere of the modern Nashville music factory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Crash Craddock!, February 6, 2006

This collection truly has all the best of Crash Craddock! I just wish I had bought it a couple years ago when it was still available. I keep checking on it every time I'm on Amazon, hoping it is back in publication. I've got an old cassette with most of these songs on it, but long for this CD! Billy Crash Craddock music is truly a taste of 70's country that we all miss. These songs bring back lots of memories!
