4.0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff.
A superior collection of one of the more amiable lesser lights of the early '70s country scene... Craddock was an ex-rockabilly singer who retired from show biz for most of the 1960s, then came to Nashville in the early '70s and slowly ramped up to a pretty successful career. 3.0 out of 5 stars Best at a ballad
I bought this CD for a few songs that he sings. He really has a way with a ballad. The best on this CD are Easy as Pie, Broken Down In Tiny Pieces, A Tear Fell and The First Time. Man can he sing those songs well. I also like Rub It In and Sweet Magnolia Blossom which are upbeat. I have some vinyl records of his and some tapes. Not many CD's available by Crash. But if you...

Craddock was an ex-rockabilly singer who retired from show biz for most of the 1960s, then came to Nashville in the early '70s and slowly ramped up to a pretty successful career. He liberally dipped into the past for many of his initial hits, covering old pop and R&B tunes, along with the occasional new tune designed to raise an eyebrow or two. This disc has a lot of his best material, including the sleazy #1 novelty hit (and big Pop crossover), "Rub It In," and similarly salacious numbers like the sequel, "You Rubbed It In All Wrong" and the surprisingly raunchy " 'Till The Water Stops Runnin'." Fun stuff... no big philosophical points or life-changing revelations, but a few fun tunes to hum along to. It belongs to an earlier era when outright dopiness in country music was much more welcome and commonplace... a time that in many ways is sorely missed in the stuffy, all-business atmosphere of the modern Nashville music factory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Crash Craddock!, February 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Crash's Smashes: Hits of (Audio CD)
This collection truly has all the best of Crash Craddock! I just wish I had bought it a couple years ago when it was still available. I keep checking on it every time I'm on Amazon, hoping it is back in publication. I've got an old cassette with most of these songs on it, but long for this CD! Billy Crash Craddock music is truly a taste of 70's country that we all miss. These songs bring back lots of memories!

5.0 out of 5 stars "CRASH'S SMASHES" A GREAT CD!, June 17, 2000

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Crash's Smashes: Hits of (Audio CD)
"Crash's Smashes: The Hits of Billy Crash Craddock" is a GREAT CD. - I grew up listening to him and still enjoy his songs. - I used to own the album and had a great exercise program to go with it. It was a great workout and the music keeps you going. - I lost the album some time ago and was excited to find it here at Amazon. I don't know if I will start up my exercise program again, but I am going to enjoy listening to this wonderful CD. - Try it, I think you will be surprised. Several of my friends recognized songs that they liked but did not know Billy was the artist that sang them.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Billy Crash Craddock - this is the one to get!!!, April 18, 2007
By
This review is from: Crash's Smashes: Hits of (Audio CD)
I just purchased this CD in April 2007, after several months of trying to locate it without any luck at all, and then when I finally had a chance to purchase a single offer that finally became available, I had to pay what I considered "a very high price for it". I am so very glad that I bit the bullet and paid the high cost associated with this CD. Limited availability and what appears to be very high demand are continually pushing the price up for this wonderful CD. It is almost impossible to find. However, each time I play the CD, I realize the high purchase price was well worth every penny spent!! In Aug 2007, I had an opportunity to get my second copy of this CD, (purchased as insurance just in case something should happen to my first copy - this CD is that good!!). It has all of Billy Crash Craddock's hot hits on it, and therefore overall, this is the CD that Billy Craddock fans would love to get their hands on. More importantly, it is not remastered hits that differ from the original music/sound/etc. This is the songs, sang the way they were originally released, and it is a quite simply a great CD. Purchase it, if you get a chance, and remember that the high price tag associated with the purchase opportunity, is simply because it is hard to get and so many other fans/people are wanting the CD - it is a great CD and well worth the ongoing "high dollar" marketplace pricing. I have no regrets for the amount of money I spent to get this CD (along with paying a high price later on for the second copy) - the enjoyment this CD gives, more than compensates for the high price tag. I highly recommend the CD to anyone lucky enough to have an opportunity to purchase it!! CM

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Billy "Crash" Craddock, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Crash's Smashes: Hits of (Audio CD)
I owned this CD at one time and would like to have it again. From 1971 to 1979, Craddock had a total of nineteen Top 10 hits on the Billboard Country charts. All of those Top 10 are on this CD. This is why it should be called "The Definitive Collection."

Craddock's website billycrashcraddock.net has this same CD with the title of "Greatest Hits" and a different album cover. It has the same track listing as "Crash's Smashes" and they are the original versions not new studio recordings. I HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS AMAZON.COM.
