Biography

THE BELIEVERS have a serious love for old school country music - they can’t help it if they were raised on punk rock & metal.

Founding members Craig Aspen & Cyd Frazzini formed THE BELIEVERS in 2001, sharing a range of influences from Gram Parsons to The Clash, all coming together to create a Country/ Rock /Soul sound that has earned them praise from the likes of Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale and… Read more in Amazon's The Believers Store

5.0 out of 5 stars No praise is too high., May 9, 2005
By
The Culchie. (Dublin, Ireland.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crashyertown (Audio CD)
This duo, Craig and Cynthia, are welcome to crash in my town anytime !

Hard to know what label to attach to this music -- Americana, Folk/Rock, Country/Folk or perhaps the latest manifestation of Cosmic American Music ? Thing is - I don't know if they are Americans but I'd like to think that the Great GP would have approved and loved this wonderful album.

The nearest stuff I could compare this music to is probably Buddy & Julie Miller's recent joint efforts. Beautiful harmonies; I could listen to Cynthia Frazzini's voice all day. Strong melodies; there's a quaint old word for you, but it's very apt, I assure you and not a weak track on the album. The only familiar song is a (good) version of that ancient Dylan classic Subterraenean Homesick Blues.

I've just ordered their only other album, 2003s "ROW" on the strength of this one; if it only turns out to be half as good, it'll still be worth it, I reckon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb fresh look at the meaning of country, August 16, 2009

I've seen The Believers live twice -- once opening for Donna the Buffalo last year in Denver and once this year at the Great Blue Heron Music Festival in New York. As good as they were both times, this CD blew me away. The voices of Craig Aspen and Cyd Frazzini, whether solo or together, make your heart ache in just the right way. It's today's sentiments with yesterday's twang. Beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the favorites of my CD collection - I have gifted this to everyone!, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Crashyertown (Audio CD)
There is no reason that some of the songs on this record did not top the country or pop charts. Songs such as Jordan, Long Way to Heaven or Nobody's Buisness are brilliantly written and performed by Cynthia Frazinni and Craig Aspen. After the first listen one finds themselves belting out the choruses while sitting in traffic, in the shower or cooking...this is the proof of great, memorable music. Bravo to The Believers. Their new record, Lucky You shows the same promise. Who's Your Baby Now has promising commercial appeal that could easily take a spot on the records of young stars such as Taylor Swift.
