As a frame of reference I am a professional gin & tonic consumer. Well, I WISH I were getting paid for it - I've been doing it for over 20 years. I have made my own tonic syrup - it came out very similar to the Tomr's brand that you can find here, expect of course I couldn't get the silt filtered out nearly as well. This stuff has a different spin on taste, even though the ingredients seem to be not so different from my own (cinchona bark of course, orange peel, lemongrass, etc). I have a Sodastream & I found the Tonic syrup they sell to be odious. However, this stuff is right on. It's heavily concentrated so it doesn't take much. And - it's easy to add to carbonated water to assemble an outstanding G&T. Very clean tasting & much more similar to Fever Tree & other "standard" Tonic than the 2 options above (Tomr & my own stuff). I ordered 3 more bottles today, I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. My Sodastream is about to get a workout!

I've made G&Ts with this premium quality base product, and without exception, friends have told me words to the effect that "this is the best gin and tonic I've ever tasted!" It surely has, in part, to do with the quality of gin I'm using - I'm a fan of the gins made in Scotland, most especially The Botanist Artisanal Islay Dry Gin from the Bruichladdich Distillery. It just blends so nicely into the drink, it is amazing, and as a homebrewer with equipment to do artificial carbonating of liquids, I make up my own sparkling water from pure r/o water, and hence of good quality control of things that could affect the taste of the cocktail. My only problem with Jack Rudy's product here is amazon's pricing. I find the product only one place in my town's retailers, the most expensive liquor store we've got, and they're selling it for US$17.00, plus 5.5% sales tax, for $17.93. That's eleven dollars less per unit. And it is the same size bottle, 17 fl oz, or 503 ml. I rarely find anything available where I live at a competitive price compared against what I'd pay through amazon, but this time, well, the numbers speak for themselves.

This is a great product, but after purchasing it and having an e-mail exchange directly with the company, it was bought to my attention that what I paid at the time on Amazon ($29.99) was almost double the retail price suggested by the brand ($16).

The syrup is great, but unless the price is corrected, look elsewhere!

I use less of the tonic syrup than the directions call for-about a half an ounce is enough- mixed with club soda- much better than commercially available tonic waters! My only complaint- this is available in specialty food stores in my area at much less than the Amazon price.

Listen, I love my G&Ts. I love the Jack Rudy aesthetic and approach to cocktail craftsmanship. I even love this tonic. I also got a bottle of Jack Rudy grenadine (what a treat! REAL grenadine! A serious must-try!).

My main problem with this tonic, however, is it lacks that sinister, bitter quinine bite I'm really looking for in a tonic. Other than that, it has great balance of flavors, and really makes a lush G&T, but I'm getting the feeling that JR was a little too concerned that this product wouldn't get enough play as a flexible mixing agent if they made it bitter, and as a result made a product that really doesn't scream "tonic" to me as I wish it would. At most, I'd call it slightly dry, like a chardonnay almost, but bitter it is not. It may just be the batch I got (3 bottles, all the same batch), but I ended up ultimately bummed that I couldn't say I liked this product as much as I really wanted to.

Excellent taste without the sickly sweet of tonic water. I've been using it with Oola Distillery Gin (Seattle local) and love it. Agree with others here that the Amazon price is steep (although it might average out with other prices + shipping). It can be found at Total Wine if you have one of those available for ~ $17. Of course you'll probably spend much more than that if you go there :)

I used to use tonic and lime. We use Jack and soda now. Great taste.

Take the time you find the right ratio for you... then it is perfect. seriously, "perfect."
