Book Description

February 25, 2005
A huge sink hole forms in the Ocala National Forest, one that is so deep and more than a mile down; briefly opens a doorway of a pre-historic world, to our world, allowing the worlds most ferocious predator to escape into our world. Paleontologist James King, who is sent to the crater, finds a discovery that will change the world of paleontology forever as the death toll mounts as attacks take place first from the Croaker Hole, then Sunset Landing to Willow Cove all on the St. Johns River. Along with Dr. King, Dr. Saddler joins the team, bringing the sensitive GSAN data and technology which in turn is being sought by a secret military government research facility from deep inside a Georgia mountain. CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) Mr. Robards, an eccentric fossil collector, offers an outrageous reward for the capture of the prehistoric predator which is blatantly monopolized by the press and a greedy general who will stop at nothing to collect the reward. Major Holt, (an aid and second in command with General Rhodes of the government research facility referred to as the W.A.R.), assists the group with a special weapon stemming from Dr. Saddler’s GSAN technology whom he tries to track down and attempt to capture or kill the vicious predator. Everyone in the group understands that no place and no one are safe as long as the creature is stalking the rivers surrounding this tiny secluded community called Welaka.

This review is from: The Crater: Seven Days Of Terror In Putnam County (Paperback)
I read a lot and I thought that this book was pretty darn good, the plot well founded with all the components including protagonists and antagonists. Its a well worth the read and worth the money! I'll read this book several times over. I cant wait for the sequel, which I found out through the authors website (www.daviddholt.com) that its going to be next year for the sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent creature feature, June 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Crater: Seven Days Of Terror In Putnam County (Paperback)
Synopsis:
An earthquake opens up a passage from the surface to a sub-terrian world apperently filled with giant marine reptiles. One of these animals, a mosasaur crawls to the surface via the passage. Once it finds a body of water the mosasaur goes on a seven day killing spree in which it kills several residents of Putnam county.

Review:
This is one of those books that one likes to read even though it really isn't very good. The characters are cookie-cuttered from every other creature feature, and not defined. The plot isn't really, thrilling, suspeceful, or clever. Yet, there are alot of gory creature scenes and action, despite how uneducated they were, and frankly that's all I really need on a summer day. This book had a mosasaur chowing people in a county and wasen't insultingly bad, and for that it is decent.

Grade:B

Recomendations: Anybody who likes creature features or any derividive of mindless gore. Not for anybody else really.

Cost: Not worth 16.95- get used copy if you can.
