Editorial Reviews

Prepare yourself for spine-tingling fright unlike anything you’ve ever experienced with The Wes Craven Horror Collection. Regarded as benchmarks of the genre, director Wes Craven’s work is recognized for its inventive storylines, stunning visual effects, black humor and, of course, bone-chilling fear. Featuring The Serpent and the Rainbow, Shocker and The People Under the Stairs, The Wes Craven Horror Collection showcases some of his most renowned creations and is sure to make anyone who dares watch them scream with fear... The Serpent and the Rainbow An anthropologist travels to Haiti in search of a drug believed to have the power to bring people back from the dead and finds himself in a supernatural netherworld of zombies, blood rites and ancient curses. Shocker In this tale of madness in the video age, an unrepentant killer on death row transforms into a terrifying energy source that can only be battled by the athlete who connects with him through dreams. The People Under the Stairs Trapped inside a mysterious couple’s terrifying house, a young boy finds himself in a real-life nightmare when he discovers the hidden, diabolical creatures hidden deep within the house.

The People Under the Stairs is one of my all time favorite creepy movies! So this was kind of like buying one good movie and getting 2 free! I have not watched the other 2 yet, but I look forward to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars FRIGHT NIGHTS DON'T GET SCARIER THEN THESE FILMS, October 25, 2009

For those fright film devotees who must be continually scared, there's The Wes Craven Horror Collection. The box set contains The People Under the Stairs (1991), in which you will go inside the most terrifying house on the street and visit the homicidal inhabitants and their gruesome secrets that live and die deep within the house; Shocker, the 1989 touching tale of a serial killer who survives the electric chair . . . well, we cannot go any further and spoil the scares. The set also contains The Serpent (1988), in which a man is put under in a deep trance by a voodoo magician; he's alive but unable to speak or move, and spends much of the movie watching his own burial and funeral. You've been warned.

2.0 out of 5 stars good stories, poor executions, April 14, 2010

The IDEAS, the ones you don't SEE AND HEAR, but the ones that you hear ABOUT, with or without help from the movie itself, are pretty darn good, especially THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. PUTS could've been a massive-scale horror film, but based on the flabby visuals and camera work etc. of PUTS and many other Wes Craven films, it becomes painfully clear that his stature in the horror community comes merely from his imagination, not his ability to make quality movies...I mean, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, the original, didn't even look that good. It's as if Wes Craven were TRYING to imitate the cheesey music videos of the era, with the cheap looking fog and shadows and the cheap neon glows in the background that didn't add anything to the visual pleasure of the movie.
