Better than the original,
By
This review is from: Craving (Audio CD)
I have the original version of The Craving and while Lee Ving is okay, I think his vocals just didn't match well with some of the songs. That is all fixed now as Dave Mustaine of Megadeth has gone back, remixed the album and has redone to vocals. This is alot better than the original. Dave's voice lends it self more to the music I feel. The songs are great as well. This album is not speed metal. It's more of a fusion of punk and metal.
1. Hells Motel: This track give off a pseudo Motorhead vibe. The riff and Dave's singing on this song just remind me alot of Motorhead. Really heavy once the song get's going. 5/5 2. The Day The Music Died: This song is one of my favorites from the album and I thought it was one of the ones Lee Ving just didn't sound right doing. This song really kicks it in gear and sounds much like Megadeth, even though Dave was trying to separate the two. 5/5 3. Fight Hate: This song isn't one of my favorites. It's gets kind of repetative. It is a mixture of metal, punk, and a blues riff. The chorus is just repetative to listen to. 2/5 4. Designer Behavior: Alot more punk influence here. This song is good. Reminds me alot of the Sex Pistols. Dave hit the punk vocals on the head with this one. Dave sounds perfect for this song. 4/5 5. The Creed: This is alot of Megadeth's fan's favorite and rightfully so. This song is solid. There's not spectacular guitar work, but it's an excellent song. This song is one though I think Lee Ving did a better job than Dave. Still, Dave's vocals are great. Song is awesome either way. 5/5 6. My Town: Another great track in punk fusion mode. Dave's voice really adds to this one. My town is pretty catchy. Again, no amazing guitar work, but the song is solid. 4.5/5 7. Voices: More metal get's thrown in here. Another one of my favorite tracks from the album. Dave's voice on this one might turn you off if you're not a fan of Megadeth, but this song is really good. 5/5 8. Nothing Is Something: We stay in metal mode as this track kicks in. The riff in this one is awesome. Lee's power vocals sounded better on this one I think. Dave did a good job though. 4.5/5 9. Hearts Will Bleed: The solo on this one is great, but that's about it. Hearts Will Bleed is a mediocre song at best. The riff is an punk influenced one and gets repetative because there aren't many changes during the song. 2/5 10. No Pain: Once this song starts, you'll be banging you're head. Dave get's close to Megadeth with the next two songs. No Pain reminds me alot of Poison Was the Cure and Take No Prisoners off of Megadeth's Rust In Peace. Yet another of my favorites. 5/5 11. Roadman: This song is quintessential Dave Mustaine songwriting. Unorthodox riffs and solos. Again, this one comes close to classic Megadeth. Sounds like something from maybe Killing Is My Business. The song itself is solid although not perfect. 4.5/5 12. Chutney (previously unrealeased): Not that impressive at all. Repetative, and boring. The same riff and lines repeated for 4 and a half minutes. 1/5 13. Segue (instrumental) (Previously unreleased): This one cracks me up. Just a short doodle in which they jam on, among other things, the famous "circus song." You know, da--da--doo-doo-doo-doo-da-da-doo-doo. It's fun to listen to, but it's by no means anything special. 1/5 14. The Creed demo: Just The Creed, which was originally planned to be a Megadeth song with different lyrics and arrangements. N/A

this CD rocks!! i can't figure out what people here are saying regarding this release. no, it's not perfect, but it is VERY solid! dave sounds excellent throughout. those of you dissing this release should give it another spin or two before writing your reviews. non stop brutal power chords with a hint of dave's lead guitar mixed in. more a punk metal fusion of songs here. a nice change of pace and definitely displays dave's talent and abilities to change style with great success. i love it.

Wow, I always liked the original version of this CD...but was always curious about Dave singing the songs also. Well here it is in all its remixed, remastered, and vocals re-recorded version. Musically this is suppose to be the same, but you can hear a differenc in the sound. Some bass lines are lower, drums are lower in certain songs. To me that is no big deal. But the vocals are interesting. On the opening track, Hell's Motel there is a deep, lower register voice along side of Dave's that is some what annoying. But once The Day the Music Died plays its awesome...Dave is great on that song!!! On Fight/Hate it's another cool song...but Dave can't quite get the Fight/Hate chants down right, they are low in the mix. Otherwise it's an awesome version. The rest of the tracks are solid...while Dave's voice has grown deeper in the last 8 years...when this was originally recorded, it's still awesome to hear him sing.
Although if he originally sung these songs 8 years ago they'd had more bite on the vocals. The bonus tracks are all KILLER. Chutney is awesome, and the Medageth Demo of The Creed is Stellar. The Sugue instrumental is about 3 or 4 bit pieces woven together and is a nice addition. I really like this remastered and remixed CD...it's like having an unreleased Megadeth CD in my collection. It really is. One head scratching question though...if you are re-releasing the MD.45 CD why not re-release the Megadeth Hidden Treasures CD??? I would figure that to be remastered and remixed before this one! Oh well...nice to have this CD in my Megadeth collection.
