I'm a fan of Melody's Crave concept and really looked forward to reading this book. I'm a small business owner and am about to embark on a new venture. I was hoping this book would be an honest account of what it's really like to take risks in business--both the pros and cons. It exceeded my expectations. Melody tells it like it is--she holds nothing back. The books conversational nature made me feel like it was just the two of us chatting away at her favorite coffee shop. She's such a great story teller! A fun ride--honest, informative and inspiring. Things to ponder (even if you've written a comprehensive business plan) and pitfalls to avoid. So much heart and passion. It's a great reminder of why I love being an entrepreneur.
It's refreshing to read such an honest evaluation of what doesn't work along the path to success. Melody's frank self-appraisal and engaging style makes this an easy read and a good guide for start-ups.
I kept thinking of this favorite quote as I was reading..."People who cannot invent and reinvent themselves must be content with borrowed postures, secondhand ideas, fitting in instead of standing out." - Warren G. Bennis... Melody Biringer will always stand out, initiate ideas and never be just content!!...and so will you if you follow the easy tips in her book.
When I saw this book, I couldn't believe how much she shared. I know Melody and she is as honest in real life but it is wonderful to read a book by someone who openly discusses all her businesses and achievements and all the things that she could do better. Not many people are able to be this; openly share all this information and experience and let you learn from their mistakes. It is an easy, light and quick read that will leave you motivated to do smarter business.
I am so thankful to Melody for sharing her personal story. Very rarely do you see people discuss there business failures and Melody has chosen a path less traveled by being candid about what worked for her and what didn't. Her book has made me rethink what I want to do as an entrepreneur which is a good thing! Anyone who helps me avoid pitfalls in life, I consider them a blessing. Again, thanks Melody for sharing your business expertise with the world!
If you're an entrepreneur you must read this book! Melody shares it all, her successes and her failures. She offers tips and concepts that will help you make better decisions and grow your business. I read it in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. This book will leave you feeling inspired, confident, and ready to take action.
I love the personal journey Melody takes readers of her upbringing and the successes/ failures of each of business ventures. I'm almost finished with my MBA program and I'm learning lots of biz tips and personal advice that hasn't even been covered in my program! It is a short and quick read between semesters.
Melody has been there and done that and her honest and entertaining style will make you feel like your big sister is giving you entrepreneurial advice. Unlike books that are all theory or ones from so-caled experts who talk down to their readers, Melody's book is encouraging, honest and informative. She candidly talks about the lessons she learned - both good and bad - in her businesses. And the format is great: plenty of digestible "a-ha's" and "uh-oh's" to help you on your way to small business success. She has a real-world, in-the-trenches perspective. What I admired most was her fearlessness for each venture - even when some didn't work out. It's that spirit to get back up and try again (and never settle for working for someone else) that comes through loud and clear - and shows why she is so successful with CRAVE.
I loved this book because it's peppered with very practical and useful concepts for small business owners to know, all weaved into a Melody's quite self-deprecating story about launching over 20 businesses in the same number of years. Melody describes a lot of her mistakes as well as her successes, gives into a bit of talk about money, and makes it clear about what works and what doesn't when it comes to small business. Easy to read, easy to digest, and easy to action: laugh along with this startup junkie and then implement Melody's recommendations. My only complaint? I wish it were longer, as I had so much fun reading it.
Melody takes you on the highs and lows of owning your own business. She is a real risk taker and she takes you along from one venture to the next learning valuable lessons all along the way. Nice bullet points at the end of each chapter, makes the take aways very clear. Learn from her hard earned triumphs and her on the chin tragedies what TO DO and what NOT TO DO.
