Just what I had in mind,

Sturdy clothes dryer, easy installation. I used quik crete to cement the sleeve in the ground, then the pole just slides right into the sleeve. This way you can take it inside for winter storage. The dryer holds two large loads of clothes easily. I am very pleased with this item.

Poorly packaged & very thin guage metal,
This review is from: Crawford-Lehigh LA84P-1 Large Capacity Deluxe Parallel Clothes Dryer (Tools & Home Improvement)
This item was poorly packaged for shipping. It was just stuck in a plastic bag with no padding and arrived with a plastic bracket broken off. The responsibility for the damage was the vendor/packer not the carrier. After being in service for a month, the support pole folded over (about 2 feet above ground level) in a moderate wind gust. I had to break the bottom part of the support pole off as it would no longer stand upright. It can still be used but the line height now ranges from 3 to 4 feet above ground level. All and all, not very good value. I should have returned the damaged product when first received, but did not want the hassle or expense.

Lehigh Large Capacity Outdoor Aluminum Clothes Dryer,

Though very happy with the product at first - the plastic 'joints' or brakets broke on the fourth use - do not know why since I was setting the dryer up and there was no undue pressure, just going about things normally. By the way Home Depot is selling these for $30.

The setup of this dryer was easy and straightforward. It has performed well for us over the past three weeks or so since I installed it. It holds 3 or 4 loads of laundry for us (fewer if there are a lot of towels or sheets). The only "flaw" I see with it is that the tension of the line is a bit tedious to adjust and it does not seem to hold the tension real well. In the end, it does not negatively affect the performance. This is a good, inexpensive way to dry clothing and keep some electricity or gas from being used.

Don't buy!,
This review is from: Crawford-Lehigh LA84P-1 Large Capacity Deluxe Parallel Clothes Dryer (Tools & Home Improvement)
Broke the very first time I used it! Though I hung my laundry evenly on all sides this thing bent over like a cooked spaghetti when it got a little bit windy. The metal ripped apart! No good quality!!!

Love the Lehigh Clothes Dryer!,
This review is from: Crawford-Lehigh LA84P-1 Large Capacity Deluxe Parallel Clothes Dryer (Tools & Home Improvement)
After deciding that purchasing an outdoor clothes dryer was something I wanted to do (for economical as well as environmental reasons), I scoped out the selection at my local home improvement store. They offered only one and it was nearly $50. I came home and looked on Amazon and came across the Lehigh Large Capacity Deluxe Parallel Clothes Dryer for about half the price of the one I had priced locally.Long story, long I ordered the dryer from Amazon. It was pre-assembled and a breeze (pardon the pun) to put up in my backyard. All I needed was a small bag of concrete mix, and voila -- laundry with the fresh smell that only comes from line drying. I highly recommend this product! Regards from the foothills of North Carolina, Gena

Works great until you tighten the line,

This line dryer was working fine until I tightened the lines. They were sagging and the clothes were sliding toward the middle of each line. I was just about done tightening the line for the 1st time when I heard a snap and the tension released. A metal arm (one of the four) that attaches via a plastic bracket to the main stem broke through the plastic near the base. All the lines sag now. The plastic cannot be repaired. Possibly replaced. But Amazon does not offer that. The line dryer is now useless. It seems to me the plastic was defective, or at a minimum a poor choice of material for this application. I've used it (lightly) about 3 mos so they will only provide a partial refund, and I pay to ship it back.

When I get it in the ground...,

The "ground socket" is made of plastic, and broke while trying to get it fixed into the ground. British parallel dryers come with metal spikes rather than plastic ones for this reason, so I'm on the lookout for a metal spike so I can actually use the dryer. But it looks good, apart from that. I wish I could've been using it already. The dryer itself looks very sturdy, particularly when compared to my old dryer (which I had for 4 years), so I expect it to last a long time. Shame it was let down by as small a thing as the ground socket. Edited after first use: When I purchased this, it was in anticipation of having a yard. I didn't get out of the apartment immediately, and now it's unfortunately too late to return, otherwise it'd be going back today. The first time I unwrapped this dryer, one of the plastic things that attaches the arms to the main pole was broken. No problem, I thought, though it was annoying. No problem until ANOTHER one broken while I was hanging up the first round of wet laundry. It's now completely useless. And, as another reviewer said, the tension in the ropes is terrible and awkward to adjust. It doesn't even spin round, as I expected, so whatever I hung in sunlight stayed there, rather than drying evenly when the wind turned it. I will not buy another of these. The construction looks good, but appearances are deceptive. If I could change my initial review it would get 2 stars. ETA: I replaced the cheaply-made one with the Brabantia 311048 Lift-O-Matic All Weather Rotary Dryer and wow, what a difference! The lines are well-threaded, it is sturdy, it comes with a cover AND a metal spike. I can fit loads of laundry on there and with no fear of the arms breaking. I wish I'd bought this one first - it is *definitely* worth the money, and what I thought I was getting before.

Great dryer!,

I am using the line for the first time today. All seems well. When I received, the cap for the ground sleeve was broken, but does not really effect the usability, although I would prefer that it was not broken. Set it up with ease. Have 3 loads -1 load of whites, 1 of lights, and 1 of darks- drying outside now! I ran out of clothes pins (bought a pack of 100) The packaging with the dryer mentioned a 32 pound load limit. I thought that didn't sound like much, figuring wet clothes have some weight to them. I did weigh the light load (t-shirts and such) and it weighed 9 lbs (with basket). I did a load of jeans/shorts (hanging to dry on a wooden rack since I ran out of pins, but there would have been room on the dryer for these also!) that weighed in at 11.7 lbs. Looking forward to putting this to use for a long time!

This is my first review after being an Amazon customer over 15 years. I prefer to sit back and enjoy reading the reviews from others on products, and I usually "listen" to what people have to say. When I see negative reviews, I try to keep an open mind that maybe a negative review could mean the occasional lemon or two. However, I've had three -- yes, three! -- experiences with this exact same product and each one did not last past the first day of use. I would really like to try to help someone avoid dealing with the hassles of this clothes dryer.1. Experience #1 - I bought this item from Amazon. I was so excited to start using the product that I'll admit the first catastrophe was my fault. Unfortunately, my hubby is not very quick at getting some things done, and rather than wait for him to dig the hole and cement the post holder into place underground, I opened the unit and used my heavy patio umbrella to hold up the dryer on my deck. Well, you can guess what happened. A slightly-more-than-gentle wind came up, and while I was watching, the wind caught the clothes in a nice billow and the unit completely fell over on my deck. There weren't many clothes on the dryer, and it wasn't too hard of a crash; however, when I picked it up, the aluminum arms were completely bent. When I tried to straighten them, they broke off completely. Very soft aluminum. 2. Experience #2 - I contacted Leigh Group directly regarding Experience #1. I spoke to a very nice person there, and believe it or not, they sent a completely new unit to me -- no shipping changes and no return required. I thought, hey, at least this company stands behind its product. Remember what I told you about my hubby? That dryer sat in my garage FOR A WHOLE YEAR -- still in its wrapping -- until hubby finally got around to digging that post hole. Then it came time to open it for the first time. I kid you not, the darn thing wasn't even OPEN all the way and the black plastic hinges ACTUALLY cracked then completely disengaged! What to do? We've had the dryer for a whole year, unused. I didn't even want to contact the company at that point. Just dump the thing. 3. Experience #3 - Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment. I figured third time's the charm, right? Maybe sitting in a garage for a whole year somehow deteriorated the plastic hinges. So when I went to Home Depot and I saw the product for a little over $30, I took a chance...and lost...again... I just came from outside, and I'm furious. I opened the item from its packaging, placed the umbrella in the hole, and proceeded to GENTLY open the umbrella. CRACK!!!! Two hinges are unusable. Please don't waste your money on this product!!! It looks like Lehigh Group doesn't even support it anymore. I went to their website ([...]), and cannot find it anywhere . Buyer beware! |
