I needed something to do for a date and a local weekly tipped me off to the entrancing sounds of Dave Fischoff, who happened to be performing in my area. His entire set consisted of tracks from his latest opus, 'The Crawl'; like his studio efforts, he was a one-man dynamo, doing everything himself. (Kind of like Billy Corgan, but sans attitude.)

This disc is no less intense than Fischoff's live performance, yet it's achingly more beautiful. If you appreciate intelligent lyricism in your music, look no further: "A crowd spinning its calligraphy of voices/ surrounds me with its talk./ Strands of conversation unwind/ around my ear like a vine." A former librarian, Fischoff obviously understands poetry and his magical observations about real life read as well as they sound.

I only have 2GB of space on my phone-cum-mp3 player, but this album will remain on my Fusic in its entirety through spring, if not summer. A harsh critic, I've been accused of music snobbery on more than one occasion, but I cannot find one flaw on 'The Crawl'. Fischoff has come a long way since his previous release, 'The Ox and the Rainbow', and his sound and vocal delivery have evolved to near perfection.

Recommended for fans of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Salvador Dali, Robyn Hitchcock, and the Postal Service. By the way, buying the album directly from Fischoff's label. [...]

This album is one of the best records out today, and for some reason no one has really heard of it. It's sad. I would suggest to any one to listen to the Dave Fischoff
