Book Description

Crawl Space June 10, 2008
Collecting Crawl Space issues #1-4, featuring a blood-drenched thriller of the pornographic undead, XXXombies! With hopes of paying off his debt to a ruthless mob boss, sleazy porn producer Wong Hung Lau gathers a bevy of adult stars for a sequestered weekend of filmmaking. However, when they emerge days later, they discover a zombie plague has overrun a now-quarantined Los Angeles. Eisner award nominees Tony Moore (The Walking Dead) and Kieron Dwyer (Remains), return to the zombie genre with fan-favorite writer Rick Remender (Fear Agent) to illustrate these boogie nights of the living dead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boogie Nights Meets Dawn of the Dead, October 6, 2008
This review is from: Crawl Space Volume 1: XXXombies (v. 1) (Paperback)
Best described as BOOGIE NIGHTS MEETS DAWN OF THE DEAD, the four-issue mini-series XXXOMBIES delivers on the promise of its title. It's the summer of 1977 and a group of pornographers, sequestered away at a mansion in LA, are getting their latest skin flick in the can... blissfully unaware that an airline crash has unleashed a horrific zombie plague throughout the city. When the plague rears its ugly head in their midst all hell breaks loose as the smut peddlers and their cast of veterans and virgins fight to stay one step ahead of the zombies not to mention the mobsters looking to collect on an overdue loan to the brains of the production.

Complicating matters is the single-minded, vigilante-like pursuit of the blonde starlet's pistol-packing, truck-driving father.

Remender and Co. don't pull any punches with XXXOMBIES and fans of gore, smut and the walking dead will get a kick out of this fast-paced zombie yarn. There are a few moments that push the envelope waaaaaayyyy past anything that you could get away with on film and you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for the various thinly-veiled real-life characters that work their way into the story's background.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate zombie guilty pleasure, September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Crawl Space Volume 1: XXXombies (v. 1) (Paperback)
So, what is this story? Another zombie outbreak tale or an unapologetic send-up of the porn industry? The answer is...both, and it couldn't be better.

This is a story that really knows how to mock the time period it's set in. You have the mob, set right in the age of The Godfather movies. All the black characters speak jive. Everyone's on coke. Everyone's looking to make the cash. And of course, even in the porn industry, and in the middle of a zombie outbreak, the sex show must go on. But who do you root for? Who's supposed to step in and be the hero? The mob? The drug addicts? The sleazy porn producers?

Well, a hero does rise, and when you see him in action, you'll see scenes of the ultimate badassery.

Everything in this story, just like the 70s themselves, is completely over the top. The creators knew exactly what they were mocking and they did their jobs with near-perfection. Even as terrible things are happening, with hot women being eaten alive, coke getting pounded up noses, and people getting shot, you can't stop yourself from laughing yourself silly.

This is a must-have, plain and simple.
