5.0 out of 5 stars Univers Zero's lost album now available!!, December 21, 2001
Mathias Jonsson (Enköping, Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crawling Wind (Audio CD)
This album was originally released in Japan in 1983. Now thanks to Cuneiform it's re-released remastered with bonustracks, including three livetracks!!
This can be seen as the bridge between "Ceux Du Dehors" and "Uzed". The former had a weird, dissonant symphonic sound with touches of medieval music whereas the later had a more open, much less dissonant, electronic sound.
Crawling Wind is a very dark album, though not as dark as the masterpiece "Heresie" - also it's a different type of darkness, more gloomy and brooding compared to Heresie's diabolic one.
The first track here sounds like a cross between the first track on Uzed and the track "Bulgarian Flying Spirit Dances" on UZ leader Daniel Denis'solo album "Les Eaux Troubles", with it's East-European folk influence.
Great to hear UZ perform Malaise (from 1313) and Trioumphe des Mouches (from Ceux du...).They are as tight and atmospheric as they are in the studio!
This album is also the first album on which clarinettist Dirk Descheemaeker appeared.
It's dark, eerie, strange and just wonderful!!Essential for all UZ fans!! Not recommended though if yoy are depressed or have weak nerves ;)!!
This CD could as well be titled "La Mort des Brugges" (if you're familiar with Belgian symbolistwriters such as Georges Rodenbach and Maurice Maeterlinck, then you'll get my point :)!!)
