A neat concept that i thought had promise, but we lost interest very quick-15 minutes later we went for a bike ride instead.
My son got this as a present for his 5th birthday. He waited all day for me to come home from work to do it on the blacktop driveway. Assembly was quick (put piece of chalk in spinner, attach handle to spinner), then you just turn the spinner a few times to wind it, then press the button to release the spinner, and it's off. However the release button was hard to depress even for me (33 yr old male) at times, so he lost interest in doing it and simply had me do all the winding and releasing. When we did get it released, it would spin enough to draw a few tight circles or curly Q's, but then quickly starting drawing squiggly lines. i think we were hoping for something a little more elaborate. That lost interest quick as well and he was satisfied simply drawing freehand on the driveway with the extra pieces of chalk. I gave it 4 stars for durability since it appears to be well build and should last a long time. I would not buy this or give as a present. Kids can have more fun simply drawing pictures and writing their names and numbers with just the pieces of chalk.

If you look at the outside of the packaging, you get the idea that the spinning chalk will go for dozens of feet and make a cool swirling line with the chalk - does not happen in reality.
Spins only a few feet and for a few seconds before it stops. Not impressed. Chalk break easily in the holder and gets stuck - requiring something hard and pointy (and probably an adult) to get broken chalk out. Avoid this product - just give your kids some chalk and let them create their own fun. Crayola should quietly get rid of this lousy product as it hurts a great brand name.

This cheap piece of plastic is great for a kid that loves to play with chalk. My children were very happy with it and the designs it made.
