Great toy, lots of fun to watch!
Donald R Evans
This toy takes about an average of SIX minutes for most pics and longer if you want the Connect-the-Dot pics.
Shay
Only disappointing thing was that the condition of the boxes wasn't perfect.

This product is an amazing thing for kids ages 3 and up (maybe even up to age 8 or 9). It has multiple settings that can be programmed by positioning it's wings. You sit it down on a piece of paper, and watch it doodle! It takes between 3 and 9 minutes to draw different pictures. The kids love it, and then they have a coloring page. Parents can pretty much set it and forget it (as long as kids don't touch the penguin while doodling). We bought a bunch of them for gifts at a GREAT price. Only disappointing thing was that the condition of the boxes wasn't perfect. They weren't bad, but they looked a little worn. Not ideal as a gift, but it didn't affect the product itself.

I think this was a great idea but it was executed poorly. The point of the toy is to be something cute and make a kid want to watch it draw. It draws very slowly. In fact, the documentation says that one drawing takes almost 18 minutes, but many can be had in 5 or so, which is still a lot of time for a little kid when they can't do anything but watch. We opened ours and loaded fresh batteries and our first 2 drawings were bad. We used full sheet copy paper taped to a granite countertop, and it messed up. It starts in the center of the page and moves to where it's supposed to start, and both times it dragged the marker to the starting point and made a line where there wasn't supposed to be one, but it seemed to pick the marker up in other places. Our second drawing was a space alien, and it got lost and drew the head off to the side at a slant. You also have to keep track of a sheet of paper to know how to code the drawing you want into the penguin, and I think at the very least there should be a pocket or something on the penguin for that sheet. To the one reviewer who had trouble removing the marker between drawings, I pressed the marker cap onto the back of the marker and was able to pull it out. After those 2 drawings we are giving up on this good idea that fails in practice. It's so much easier to download coloring sheets off the internet and run them through a printer. Even if it had worked properly it still takes a long time to set up and watch it go, so I think a kid would lose interest.

My 4 year old daughter LOVES penguins and LOVES coloring so, this gift was perfect for her. According to the instructions, you need 12x9 paper. So far only one drawing went off the 8.5x11 paper (the kind most people have on hand). Second, the marker bleeds a little on construction paper, which is annoying. We've given her a stack of computer paper and that works great. Some pictures also take up to 3 minutes to create, which can be a long wait for a 4 year old!!

Cute idea, not sure her interest will still be here in a week!

Easy for our 5-yr old to set up although we generally help with the dials. She has used it many times since we got it several weeks ago.

If I could rate it at 0 stars, I would. It's a neat idea, but VERY poorly executed. The penguin broke down on the 2nd picture, literally within 5 minutes of use -- it probably took the penguin 3 or 4 minutes to finish the first drawing. My kid was amazed when it went around and drew the first picture and then he got super frustrated when the penguin broke down and won't work any more. The problem is that the mechanism that's supposed to lift the pencil up doesn't work any more and yes, I had to use plier / screw-driver to get the pen out. It leaves a trail when the penguin went off the starting point (center of the paper) and prepares to draw the pictures. Oh, for the two pictures the penguin attempted, it managed to draw off the paper. It's a sheer waste of money.

I purchased this for my 4 year old because he loves penguins. It is quite cute and surprisingly very accurate in its drawing. However, it does take long to produce the results. My 7 year old daughter enjoyed it much more than the 4 year old.

I gave my daughter this for Christmas and she will not quit playing with it! All other toys ignored! Who knew I couldn't have gotten off so easy and purchased only one item this year? Will be ordering more for birthday gifts!!!
