5.0 out of 5 stars It worked.
I was looking for a way to interest my almost three years old daughter in using the mouse. She is good at using the keyboard (which means she hits the keys regularly). This mouse did the trick.

It has a couple of blinking leds that caught her attention, and then two figures that shake in water when the mouse is moved around.

Arrived in a soggy box with no water inside the mouse.

The internal box was packed in a plastic bag, suggesting this may be a known problem.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leaked All Over, February 26, 2009
This review is from: Crayola 12071 Optical Water Mouse (Green/Blue) (Personal Computers)
This mouse looks like a really cute and good idea, but don't buy it. It leaked all over our leather-upholstered ottoman/coffee table which we were using as a computer table for our three-year-old since it was just her height. I should have paid closer attention to the other reviews on here that caution against the leaking, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not for long term use, April 2, 2009

My 2 year old was intrigued by the water and it did what a mouse is designed to do, but I stored it after it's first gentle use and when I pulled it out to use again a few days later, it had leaked in my laptop bag. NOT GOOD!

It is still being used, but with a piece of duct tape on the side. After one short use by a toddler... you know, the intended audience for it.

Glad he likes it, but disappointed with the quality. [...].

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy - Horrible Quality, November 27, 2010

This mouse was really cool for about a day or two. My three year old son loves it. The scroll wheel no longer works correctly, and it has difficulty tracking on my mouse pad where no other mouse has a problem.

If the intended purpose is to teach your child to use a mouse, this is not a good mouse due to the issues with quality.

If the only intent is to get them excited about learning to use it, why not?

My daughter enjoyed this very much. Unfortunately, just after the ability to return the product expired (2 months and a few days), it began to leak.

2.0 out of 5 stars VERY Brittle, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Crayola 12071 Optical Water Mouse (Green/Blue) (Personal Computers)
It's size is just right for young hands, and the outer edge of each mouse button has a tactile ridge to help keep those fingers properly positioned on the mouse. The mouse wheel works great, and it is rubbery for a good grip. It rolls easily and it also works as a "middle" button, but it does not rock from side to side like some mice do. The design is delightful and entertaining.

The LED lights built into the mouse do not turn off, and some of them flash. However, that has not been an issue because the hand covers up most of the clear parts of the mouse. It might be an issue if the mouse is used in darkness, but how often do your kids use the computer in the middle of the night? It can be unplugged or covered if you don't want it to flash the room while it is not in use.

The back half of the mouse is filled with blue dyed water and there are two weighted floaties inside. This mouse has been very entertaining for my little one.

This is aesthetically, a fantastically designed mouse for kids. With that said however, there is a major flaw with the construction. The clear plastic that makes up most of the mouses' body is very, very brittle. Not what I expected from a mouse intended for younger audiences. It can easily crack and leak. The liquid could also suddenly leak out due to inexpensive construction of the compartmental seal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Water?, January 28, 2009

I bought this for a relative. When I received it the water leaked out of it in transit and got everything in the box wet. Needless to say I sent it back. Amazon sold out of them so I bought a different mouse.
Looking back it was probably good that it sprung a leak in transit and not on the desktop.

It has a couple of blinking leds that caught her attention, and then two figures that shake in water when the mouse is moved around.

The size is also a plus: it is uncomfortable for me, but fits good in her hand.

The best software for her to use the mouse has been Sesame Street First Steps. She doesn't have to click and there are several activities.

3.0 out of 5 stars mouse pad, December 7, 2011

I was very excited to purchase this mouse pad. I figured ANYTHING by crayola should be perfect. However, I was disappointed to discover that the flashing LED lights cannot be turned off and now I am hesitant to use this in a classroom because I fear students with special needs having seizures. Lesson learned... read reviews, don't just trust a name. It was shipped expediently though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scared by reviews...but GREAT mouse., April 6, 2011

GREAT childs mouse. Almost scared off by the bad reviews. 4 yr old granddaughter loves the flashing colors. Winged clickers easy to click and little fingers do not slide off. Heavy enough to stay put while clicking. VERY IMPORTANT. Other mouse we had was so light that it would move off of the area needeed as she tried to click. No leaks. Learning to scroll. My Sophia AND Mickey, Minnie and Donald are happy now. Goofy too!
