4.0 out of 5 stars Good clay play
If you are looking for a clay product that makes very little mess, is wonderfully versatile, dries fairly quickly (overnight) and can be colored beautifully with watercolors or markers before it has even dried, then this product is it. I also find that the individual packs are the right size for small projects. Enough to do something with but not so much that they waste...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tends to stick to itself when fresh & crumbles when dry
Conducted class project for 2nd graders to make carousel animals with pencil inserted into middle of animal body. Animal legs tended to stick to other legs, causing frustration among the students. Neck & head of horses & zebras tended to sag downward. Once pencil was carefully inserted, animal tended to sag in half. Had to use masking tape to hold poses. When dry,...

When dry, children painted their animals with tempera paint. Clay feels spongy when dry, but ears, legs, etc. can easily be broken off.

I needed a lot of something clay-ish that would have to dry very quickly overnight. This was quite marshmellowy material that still remained a little spongy after 24 hours. It did what I needed it to do for a children's craft but it didn't achieve the hardness I desired.

I also find that the individual packs are the right size for small projects. Enough to do something with but not so much that they waste it. I have used it with kinders through sixth grade and it is great. I will be using it as a staple for clay work in my art classes in the future.

ModelMagic is the most favorite modeling clay for my 9yo and 6yo. An added plus that you can paint it after molding and drying. The negative side that the figurines are quite brittle. Easy to use, stores well. Individual packets preserve freshness, so one carton lasts a long time (last time we even kept it a bit too long - the clay started drying up, so we had to add a few drops of water and knead it well to return to maximum elasticity)
