I am very pleased with my purchase of the Crayola Oil Pastels. I have used other pastels that did not have the brilliant and sharp colors that Crayola has. They also smear easily for blending. Included in this pack is metalic gold and silver. They are soft enough to use as oils should be, but hard enough not to mush or break. Nice color assortment as well. Works well on black, white, manilla, and many other colors of paper. These are good for any age. I am 37 and I use them for my own personal artwork. The price is great, too. And, be sure to buy here from Amazon.com, as these run out in stores very quickly!

Thanks,

Tiff

Like so many of Crayola's products -- particularly their color pencils -- the fact that they're associated with children's art means they can't, and don't, charge the laughably outrageous prices you'd see for "professioinal" art supplies, even though their products are often of professional quality. But these pastels, while they may not compare with the absolute highest-end, $25-for-a-handmade-stick pastels, are absolutely comparable to Caran D'Ache and other artists' pastels. I'm really happy with the color selection, the texture, and the feel of the sticks in my hand. I'm an avid amateur artist, art school degree and all, and my five-year-old and I love using these. And that's another great thing about these -- because they're so cheap and sturdy, my boy can use them with abandon. We have the greatest time.

If your child hasn't moved up to oil pastels, consider these. The texture is nothing like crayons. It's a very sensuous experience blending and creating solid blocks of bright color -- your kid will love it. And so will you. Tip: Consider using sturdy paper that can take watercolor, drawing with these pastels, and overwashing with Crayola Washable Watercolors. The watercolors won't stick to the pastels, and the overall effect is really interesting. My boy and I have done some amazing and very colorful artworks this way. His walls are now decorated with our efforts!

Every kid seems to love these oils. They find the texture very different from the usual crayons and markers. One of my daughter's friends couldn't resist and took them home. Daughter demanded that I order another asap--and she is 16.

I'm a homeschooling mother of 6. We incorporate art skills into our lessons every day by sketching, coloring, and/or painting illustrations of the things we are learning about. These oil pastels are perfect for my little guys (ages 3 and 4) because they are much longer and thicker than regular art pastels. These pastels are rich in color, and are just as blendable as any other oil pastels we use. My little guys like being able to do pastel drawings just like their older siblings, and they are becoming quite good at blending colors and using different types of strokes and different amounts of pressure. My 4-year-old even decided to peel the paper off of his so that he could rub them flat on the paper for coloring large areas, just like his 13-year-old sister does with her pastels (she has a set of Pentel). These have been a perfect art supply for our homeschool and have really helped my children with their art skills, and inspired their creativity. And, they are of such a fine quality, all the children are able to use these (up to age 18). I am so perfectly pleased with these--and the price is fantastic! Excellent value!

WOW! I only got these thanks to the great reviews. We compared these to more expensive oil pastels such as Faber Castell and Pentel, and these are great! The others we've tried are a little bit softer, but also much more fragile and small. I'm not an artist, but we do lots of art for fun. These are sturdy, larger and longer-lasting, plus they color smoothly and are great for rubbing and blending. These are ideal for children or anyone that doesn't want their pastels to break. I generally moved away from Crayola as I found nicer things, but this is a keeper! Thanks Crayola! My children love these, and I do too! We'll need more paper soon.

The crayola oil based crayons will give younsters the feel of professional artists at a price parents can afford. Every budding artist needs a little help and every proud parent wants not only to give it but to show off the results. You'll have the best decorated refrigerator in town.

These are surprisingly great oil pastels. I purchased these because I am a beginner, and didn't want to invest a lot of money in a medium I might not like. These pastels are larger than other ones I looked at; they are also hexagonal so they don't roll. It's been a long time since I've used pastels, but these seem a bit oilier than the ones I used when I was young--but not so oily as to be unusable. The variety of colors is very appealing, and they do blend very well. They do tend to get on your fingers and they are a bit messy--keep a towel nearby :-) I think this product is GREAT for the price!

My son loves these. He was excited and went into a drawing frenzy for a few days. Though it did not last.
