I am very pleased with my purchase of the Crayola Oil Pastels. I have used other pastels that did not have the brilliant and sharp colors that Crayola has. They also smear easily for blending. Included in this pack is metalic gold and silver. They are soft enough to use as oils should be, but hard enough not to mush or break. Nice color assortment as well. Works well on black, white, manilla, and many other colors of paper. These are good for any age. I am 37 and I use them for my own personal artwork. The price is great, too. And, be sure to buy here from Amazon.com, as these run out in stores very quickly!
Thanks, Tiff

Like so many of Crayola's products -- particularly their color pencils -- the fact that they're associated with children's art means they can't, and don't, charge the laughably outrageous prices you'd see for "professioinal" art supplies, even though their products are often of professional quality. But these pastels, while they may not compare with the absolute highest-end, $25-for-a-handmade-stick pastels, are absolutely comparable to Caran D'Ache and other artists' pastels. I'm really happy with the color selection, the texture, and the feel of the sticks in my hand. I'm an avid amateur artist, art school degree and all, and my five-year-old and I love using these. And that's another great thing about these -- because they're so cheap and sturdy, my boy can use them with abandon. We have the greatest time.
If your child hasn't moved up to oil pastels, consider these. The texture is nothing like crayons. It's a very sensuous experience blending and creating solid blocks of bright color -- your kid will love it. And so will you. Tip: Consider using sturdy paper that can take watercolor, drawing with these pastels, and overwashing with Crayola Washable Watercolors. The watercolors won't stick to the pastels, and the overall effect is really interesting. My boy and I have done some amazing and very colorful artworks this way. His walls are now decorated with our efforts!

Unique Gift for Kids of all Ages,

Every kid seems to love these oils. They find the texture very different from the usual crayons and markers. One of my daughter's friends couldn't resist and took them home. Daughter demanded that I order another asap--and she is 16.
