5.0 out of 5 stars Favorites of mine as a child... and favorites of mine still today!
Crayons! Crayons are great when you get one of those creative urges and just need to draw. Crayons aren't nearly as messy as markers, and they don't need to be sharpened as often as colored pencils. The best part about crayons, though, is that if you don't have a sharpener you can just peel the paper off and keep drawing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great item, poor packaging for shipping
Love the crayons, but the packaging was so poor that several of the crayons arrived broken. My son was really disappointed when he opened the box and lots of crayon pieces fell out. I would buy the item again, but not from Amazon.

Crayons! Crayons are great when you get one of those creative urges and just need to draw. Crayons aren't nearly as messy as markers, and they don't need to be sharpened as often as colored pencils. The best part about crayons, though, is that if you don't have a sharpener you can just peel the paper off and keep drawing.

This Crayola set has always been my personal favorite. 64 classic colors including your basics (red, blue, yellow, etc) AND your favorites (macaroni and cheese, tickle-me-pink, etc). As if getting the crayons isn't enough, they throw in a courtesy sharpener on the back of the box. This sharpener is really handy when you're focused on your current work of art and don't have time to get up and walk to a stationary sharpener.

Another bonus about this box, versus something laughable like RoseArt, is the way the rows of crayons are arranged. They implemented the "stadium seating" feature in this box for quick and efficient switching between colors. You won't find yourself digging around in this box trying to find the rogue crayon that fell sideways along the bottom.

My only complaint with this product is that the crayons are not very sturdy. If you push too hard while trying to emphasize something, like a bald man's head with the "peach" crayon, it just might snap in half under the strain. This can be extremely frustrating, especially if you've already ruined a previous box of crayons in this way.

Also, because the crayons are cylindicular in shape you have to be careful where you set them down. A few of them rolled off my desk the other day and ended up under the couch. I didn't realize this had happened until I began vacuuming the next morning. Tickle-me-pink and Scarlet ended up lodged in the mouth of the vacuum cleaner tube, and it took forever to get them out!

One last concern. Crayola says these crayons are non-toxic, but that does NOT mean they are ok to eat. I know it's hard to resist that macaroni-and-cheese crayon (I'll be honest, I took a bite out of mine), but don't let the name fool you. NONE of these crayons taste like their name.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 64-pack of fun..., March 23, 2006

With this many crayons, the coloring possibilities are nearly limitless. All the classics are here, like Red, Yellow and Blue...and with 64, this box attacks the continuous optipal spectrum of colors from wavelengths of 380nm (Violet) up through the high end of Red at 740nm. The only thing better was if the folks at Crayola could create ultraviolet or infrared.

These rank low in durability...our 64 pack of crayons multiplied to 128 just one day after purchase...and now we're somewhere at about 300...our son can't get enough of breaking crayons.

My only wish is that they would offer the 64 color set in the 'washable" variety.

Exactly what you would expect from crayola crayons: smooth writing, bright colors, good variety.

We have used other brands of crayons, and have found that if you want the brightest colors with the smoothest writing, crayola is the way to go. This box is the perfect size for my 6 year old artist, an exceptional variety of colors that is enough to inspire creativity without being overwhelming.

The "sharpener" is kind of a joke, it wastes a lot of crayon and doesn't really "sharpen" anything.

We save our broken crayons and crayon shavings to be melted and made into new crayons. Again, crayolas are the best for this, other crayons tend to melt into oily globs that don't harden back up.

Strangely enough, my kid asked for crayons for Christmas. It's not like she doesn't have a million of them in boxes all over the house, she wanted "new ones". What kid doesn't like using a fresh crayon?! Six bucks to make her happy, totally worth it.

I saw these in Walgreens and bought them for old times sake. I started experimenting with them in my Dover coloring books and discovered a few things- they layer beautifully over colored pencil, they work very nicely with a blending stump, and they burnish to a very smooth high shine. My colorless blending pencils work with the crayons, but not as well as I would have thought. I got a nice wash of color by scraping the wax away with my thumbnail. And, they're just as fun as I remember! I'm going to try incorporating these into my artwork.

Who can go wrong with crayons. They were a gift and the child receiving them loved them! He already has used them and created me a handmade thank you card! Crayons were shipped in a decent time frame and the cost was better than what I have found in stores.

Crayola crayons were the best and I remember how excited I was when Mom and Dad gave us kids our first "64" crayon set. I was sooo excited.

Two generations later, I order two sets...one for the great nieces, nephews and granddaughter to play with and one for me to keep in reserve to "fill in". So let's see, the first thing I did with that spare set was get one of the coloring books and colored the first picture just to prove to the kids that Grandma and Auntie can still color. I wonder what I'll use for an excuse to color the second picture.

The spectrum of colors, the sharpener...nostalgia and they're still just as cool as they were 50 some years ago.

Getting a box of 64 Crayola crayons is fun for any kid, any age. The colors are amazing, the possibilities are endless. My daughter loves the BIG box and loves to draw. With so many colors to choose from it takes coloring to another level. As always, Crayola is a great choice. A quality product, at a great price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thin, but Plentiful, October 4, 2011

My 18 month old has recently become obsessed with coloring. Now, these thin crayons are obviously intended for older children, but it's difficult to find a decent, cheap set of crayons with more than 12 colors. Considering the price of these crayons, it's not a big deal if a few break each week. Still, it would be nice to have a durable set of 64 colors. More importantly, for any age, thicker crayons would be easier to use and color more nicely/fuller. I had a similar set as a child and they were roughly twice the thickness...i think the standard crayola crayon size. They lasted forever and were much nicer to color with.

So, even though these are really meant for older children, I think if you have a kid who knows how to properly handle crayons, it's worth investing in a nicer, thicker set of crayolas. While we've gone through a dozen or so crayons because they broke (i'm guilty of a couple), the sharpener on the back works passably (barely) to still allow you to go on using the broken crayon. My daughter gets a kick out of sharpening the crayons whether they need it or not.
