5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Art Apron!
We have tried various types of art aprons. Most of them claim that you can wash them because they are durable but they usually end up falling apart. Other art aprons are plastic and uncomfortable and usually slide around on the child's clothes. This "Beginnings Tidy Top" is soft, it feels more like a fabric but it keeps the paints and glue off their clothes. It has long...

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT Waterproof OR Paint Proof
I would disagree with the other reviewers that claim the Crayola Tidy Top is waterproof and keeps paint off clothes. The fabric is comfy for wearing, but it is thin and very permeable, and wet paint (and anything else liquid) goes right through to clothes. I found this out the hard way with RED paint. Thankfully, it was washable, but I am very disappointed. I had also...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Art Apron!, September 26, 2009

We have tried various types of art aprons. Most of them claim that you can wash them because they are durable but they usually end up falling apart. Other art aprons are plastic and uncomfortable and usually slide around on the child's clothes. This "Beginnings Tidy Top" is soft, it feels more like a fabric but it keeps the paints and glue off their clothes. It has long sleeves with elastic around the wrists and a velcro closure in the back. It doesn't slide around on their clothes and my three year old doesn't cry when I put it on her. I agree with the first review that it could be worn for a child up to the age of five. We have washed our tidy top multiple times and it comes out looking new every time. Even glitter comes off of this apron unlike other aprons where it just continues to stick to the plastic and sheds off on the child every time they wear it. If your child loves doing crafts, this is the one to buy!

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT Waterproof OR Paint Proof, June 13, 2010

I would disagree with the other reviewers that claim the Crayola Tidy Top is waterproof and keeps paint off clothes. The fabric is comfy for wearing, but it is thin and very permeable, and wet paint (and anything else liquid) goes right through to clothes. I found this out the hard way with RED paint. Thankfully, it was washable, but I am very disappointed. I had also been using ours as a bib for my 3-year-old, because it is long-sleeved and covers his clothes better than other bibs. However, his white polo now has lasagna stains all over it because the sauce (which wasn't even that liquidy) went right through the fabric of the "tidy top" and onto his clothing. I think if you were using the Crayola Tidy Top for glue or other messy crafts, it would be great. But don't expect it to keep wet paint and other liquids off your kids' clothes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Art Apron!, June 3, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This art apron is great! It has long sleeves with elastic on the bottom of the sleeves. This is great because I don't have to worry about paint getting on long sleeves. It is also very easy to clean paint off of it. It states that it's for 18 months to 3 year olds but I think that you could use up to age 5.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good apron, but elastic wrists are tight, October 31, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Crayola Beginnings Tidy Top (Toy)
This art apron has withstood the test of time for us-- my daughter (age 3 1/2) has used it for more than a year, and it's helped quite a bit to keep paint off her clothes, but from the beginning, I didn't like the fact that the elastic on the wrists is so tight... it leaves marks on her wrists, which tells me it's tight enough to cut off her circulation. If I cut off the elastic, though, it won't stay over her sleeves. I just wish they had given a bit more room in the wrists. Because of that problem, we won't use it much longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Art Apron for young kids, March 12, 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I bought this along with a set of fingerpaints for a two year old's birthday a few weeks ago, and we have already gotten tons of use out of this apron. The apron is excellently designed - it fits snug at the collar and snaps tight at the wrist, but not in a way that would be uncomfortable.

I can think of no better testament to this thing than my last experience with it; white sweater, this apron over it, finger painting, and not a spot on him after I whipped it off. And this is not a neat little guy, this is a guy who decided to paint his face and hands for the last half an hour of painting. He was painting his chin and it STILL did not get on the shirt underneath because of how it was pulled up at the collar.

You can't imagine how much of a breeze cleanup was when all I had to do was wipe his face and hands, and then whip this thing off.

We will use it for baking as well!

very good for younger kids. It was to short for my daughter. About the length of a shirt. I was looking for one that covers the legs also.

This smock was a great buy. It was perfect for my daughter and kept all paint off her clothes. It also washes very nice in the wash machine. It was great for my daughter for quite sometime, although I put it on her just the other day to paint and when I took it off she had horrible rings around her wrists from the elastic. She is just over 2 and is solid but not chunky. I will probably try to stretch the elastic before I put it on her again.

I was looking for something to act as a bid and overall clothes protector. This work fabulously. It's size is true (I purchased the 3-6 smock) and fits well. It has the elastic around the wrist and fits well. It's durable and light at the same time. Good, comfortable purchase.

this is an overall cover bib -- great for eating, painting, playdough, etc. It wipes up well and gently washes well. This one is a replacement for one we got a year ago that the waterproofing wore out on. It will stay waterproof better if it isn't washed in the washer and wrung out. Just rinse it in soapy water and hang it to dry.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST OUT THERE, November 13, 2011

This is the best art smock around for toddlers and preschoolers. I had the Alex toys one (which is similar to most others on the market now) and it's WAAAAY too stiff so it restricts movement. Plus, the sleeves are far too long for ANY toddler or preschooler so you're forever trying to secure them up. The Alex toys one is also super hot due to heavy plastic so wearing it in summer is just no fun at all. I decided to give this Crayola one a shot before I gave up and went to an old dress shirt (which would let paint and markers soak through to clothes). This Crayola smock is WONDERFUL. It fits great, it's super lightweight, the elastic cuffs make it a cinch to keep sleeves clean, it's long enough to cover most kids to below the waist area and it doesn't restrict movement at all. One person complained the elastic was too tight. If you agree, just roll the sleeve one time and the elastic will hold the rolled portion in place, keeping the elastic off their skin -- problem solved. We have never had an issue with the elastic. Best of all -- it's machine washable. You can't go wrong with this in any way -- even the price is great. I'm getting a second one for our daughter so that if one is in the wash, we have another. We even used this for pumpkin carving to keep her clean while scooping out the gooey insides and we'll use it for making and decorating Christmas cookies too -- since it's better and more easily washable than any apron. Great product.
